Thought on the x as a first car?

Hello guys I'm new here and I've come here mainly for advice, any and all is appreciated no matter how negative It may be. Hit me hard.

About me - I'm 34 years old and I'm about to pass my test, late I know but I've always suffered Anxeity when It came to driving (or so i thought) turns out It was actually just the booking It and walking to the car putting me off all these years, I actually love driving, anyway, i digress.

My number 1 dream car for as long as forever is the lancer, any variant I just love the rarity and how most drivers are usually some middle aged cool as a cucmber guy (when you see them by me at least) I wanna be that guy.

I have zero interest in speeding or racing (sacrilegious?) I just want a Evo-x to make a dream come true even if it's only for a year. I will literally drive It 5 miles a day to work and back maximum and the odd shopping trip of a weekend.

I've had insurance quotes from 1600 - 2000+ annualy. Which i can afford, i'd have to take out a loan of around 10,000 for the car and put the rest myself as i have some cash in the bank.

Now here is the hard part, I'm not in a very high paid job at all, about 1,500 a month after taxes and pension, etc.

My half of the rent Is only 300 though, the loan will be roughly 120 / month.

No kids, no wife / missus / dependants at all. Loan + Insurance + tax + rent will come to about 320 +300 = 650 say a month.

Now I know about the mpg and vpower and all that, I'm just curious as to your advice.

Would you avoid making your dream come true with my situation?

I will literally do no more than 2k miles first year and have zero intentions of speeding / abusing It.

Please, flame on and bully me. I can take It and need hard truths.

If this Is the 172,03203,0221 st time this thread has been posted I apologise profusely.

I'm jealous of each and every one of you like you would not beleive.

Chris

If u can afford it. Do what makes u happy bud. That's all there is to it.

You dont have any dependents to think about. So go for it!

Even after all the money I've blown on my car. I still love it!

This Is the kind of answer I was hoping for but not expeting, cheered me up a tad. Thank you.

It's just I've been reading threads where people say stuff like you need to have $2500 put away In a sperate bank account and plop In $200 a month extra for problems down the line.

I can't afford to do that, Is that something only someone who mods / races the car Is suggesting? And the average person who Is literally going to use It as a normal car 2-3k miles a year would be fine?

It'll be the Automatic flavour too.

Thanks for your response my friend. It Is appreciated.

Dont modify it much, maintain her well, and she will be reliable.

There are a few guys around here with 100+ thousand miles on their cars.

I 2nd this. Relatively minor modifications, if any, and regular maintenance go along way if you're looking for longevity, as well as driving style/habits (warm up/cool down, not going WOT all the time, etc.)

Compared to some German cars I've owned, the Evo X has had way fewer and less-costly issues, both mechanically and electronically.

Go for it Chris. i was in the same situation as you a few years ago when i got the car. No dependents, lower paying job, and kind of worried about the costs of the Evo.
The car hasn't been a huge financial burden when compared to any N/A car I've owned.
The only thing that stood out to me was the relatively short oil change intervals, especially if I hit boost a lot.

Thanks so much for all your Input and advice guys, It's really appreciated i wasn't expecting anyone to say "go for it" yet you all have, means a lot to me.

Now I have a bigger Issue at hand, I'm all set, almost passed, credit rating is maxed out ready to buy the car and my "landlord" aka "best" friend has decided he wants to sell the house so he can get a bigger one with his missus. So he wants me to purchase it meaning I'd need money saved and loan for purchasing the house.

This has turned Into a dream right around the corner scenario to a heart vs head scenario.

Feel like crying. Honestly I do. Can't catch a break.

Anyway this isn't a life Issues forum, sorry I got all into that.

Thank you all again, If I make the stupid choice I might be back and sticking around these parts for a long while.

Until hopefully then, you all take care.

I dunno man, this kind of sounds like a win/win. Either you end up owning a house, or you end up owning an Evo. Personally - In the long run, you will probably be happier getting the house first. If I were you, I would budget in a "sports car savings" every paycheck. Nothing huge, just set it aside and watch it grow. Eventually it will be enough to grab what you want. Then you will have your own driveway/garage to tinker or wash your new toy in. I've owned sports cars ever since I tuned 18, and in doing so, I wasted a of of money in rent because my debt to income was out of whack. I didn't start getting ahead until I bought my first house.
Just my $.02
