Idle issues with Air Cond.

My Evo is pretty heavily modified. I can list specs if needed.
My problem is, I had a funky idle, where the idle speed would bounce around a lot and Iíd get lean readings at my wide band o2. When I turned on the AC at idle, the RPMs would drop and almost kill the motor. AC off, idle is better, above 1000 RPMs.
But recently, I got in the car, warmed it up, started down the road and when I got to the stop sign and put it in neutral, the RPMs almost died like it would with the AC on. If I turned the AC on, the idle would improve until the compressor shut off and then idle would nearly die again.
I troubleshooted and eventually unplugged the cable to the AC compressor. After that, idle is super smooth. WTF!?
This is mind boggling. I think my AC clutch might be stuck on possibly. It seemed to be blowing cool air even though the blower was off and the AC lines had condensation on them, even though I never turned it on. Has anyone ever heard of this? I tried pulling a fuse for the AC compressor, fuse 7 under the hood, a 10 amp fuse. But it didnít do anything as far as I can tell.

Does it still blow cold air if you set fan speed to "off" and the temp gauge to a middle setting, slightly towards the warm side? If so, then I think you are right and the clutch is stuck.

I changed the relay and it seems to be back to normal. So weird that happened though.

relay that stuck are a common failure on those EVO. I had my hi-beam that would not turn off recently... checked wiring schematic, and it had to be a relay that stayed stuck on... but to be sure, I swapped with an other relay on the side that was similar.
hi-beam was now working flawlessly, but when I got to lock the car the next night at 1am, my horn got stuck!!! what a brilliant idea to swap a mostly defective relay where it is going to be noisy as xxxx! well... good you figured it out and didn't had the same genius idea as I had!
