I'm getting my first evo and wondering if I should pick a up a gsr or MR really want to know if the 5 speed trans it's worth it it's hard finding a MR around my area I want a evo 8 or 9. Im going to modded with a 67/66 precision turbo I have right of the bat then build the motor piece by piece
Just get an 8 GSR. You're clearly looking for big power if you're throwing a 6766 on it right off the bat and building the motor, so don't even bother with an MR.
Yeah just want to know more info my brother is getting one but he keeps saying loom for a mr. . The one that his getting next week it's an MR but took him 3 months to find it. One gear shouldn't make a difference only on mpg? Or is there an advantage that he would have over me?
Actually for big power he is the one disadvantaged. The gsr's 5-speed is stronger than the MR's 6-speed. The evo 8 gsr has the longest gearing so I'd recommend that for what you wanna do with the car.
What they said. You can do more with the GSR then the MR. With the MR you will get the quicker shifts with the paddle shifters but you will really have to beef up the motor for the MR to support anything more then 420hp id say just to be safe. Im currently int he process of looking for an evo and I found an 08 MR that I may be going with but im still up in the air about it since I have always drove true manuals.
Get the GSR! I have had my GSR for 2 years now with no issues at all have about 34k and still running strong. The MR i am sure will require more maintenance then a 5 spd.
Why do you regret your X? I have one but I can't find any regrets about it.
