If a cop sees you going 25+ over the limit, he can probably give you a ticket in most states for reckless endangerment, enthusiast driving, or something similar.
Around here (Arizona) 20+ over is a criminal offense. You WILL be arrested and your car WILL be impounded. 20+ or >85 MPH anywhere (max freeway posted limit in the state is 75).

So drive accordingly.

BTW popo are state licensed - there is no such thing as their own district. They can write/arrest anywhere in the state.

in California its not. They will require a court appearance and you are not allowed to take traffic school (but the judge can grant it), however they will not impound your car for 25+, unless its also classified as reckless, not are not the same and are assigned as independent infractions.

Dude i'm saying that going 110mph in a 55mph can get you a ticket even if the cop does not technically get you for speeding based on radar/pace/etc.

I wouldn't think that having a radar detector would have helped OP avoid the incident that precipitated this thread.

I must be misunderstanding. If he legally clocked you at at say 85 in a 55 and you are just cruising then its probably just a speeding ticket. If you are driving erradically or racing at ANY speed then yes you would get that ticket and speed with only be a contributing factor.

Well I will say that anybody that street races in the city probably wouldnt have been saved by a radar detector. Buildings tend to block quite a bit of radar detection for long distance.

No, not all of us do. We take long road trips up highway 5 where the speed limit is 70, and I drive 80 with not a soul in sight and its not dangerous. Stop your trolling.

Uhh ok you're wrong bud. Yeah its good for picking up RADAR, which 9/10 times in NY a state trooper is using LASER. Trust me I have the best radar on the market and I have still been hit with the laser twice. Sure its nice to know a cop is a mile down the road, but when they want to pull people for speeding they are using laser. You need a laser jammer to avoid those, radar doesn't do anything other than let you know your about to get a ticket.

Yeah it has saved me from radar, but I would never expect not to get any tickets because of it. I pick out cops way ahead anyways so no problem for me.

Sorry but I bought a performance car because I enjoy speed. If there is an open highway and I know there are know cops I have no issue getting on it.

Fwiw, it's not often cops are pulled over camping with laser in the metropolitan area in DFW.

In speed traps? Yes.

Picking up Ka band radar serves as a quite nice heads up

Yeah no doubt, but I'm talking speed traps which is where 90% of the time you are going to get a ticket around my area.

It lets gives you the heads up, which is nice, but all it takes is one cop lasering and thats that.

My V1 let me know there was a State Trooper a significant distance behind me a few days ago. A good radar detector coupled with a laser jammer will definitely save you most of the time. However, it depends on if laser jammers are legal in your state though.

Cops in Chicago only use the always on Ka Band, and they are the only ones who use that band. You know they are there way before they have line of sight with you. The GPS feature will block all other signals out after a bit, it's a VERY effective system in Chicago.

I have the same radar and can vouch for its reliability. Quite honestly the only time I have ever gotten pulled over was when driving through Arizona..... Cops out there LOVE to light up your rader with "LASER" in which case it's already too late. But, only gotten two tickets in my life, both were in Arizona, both were within a week of each other (trip out there, and trip back) ..... Just don't go through AZ and you'll be fine is the moral of the story
