Bolt Ons Questions

Hey everyone. Ive read most of the typical bolt on threads, but I wanted to get some direct feedback to my personal setup.

Right now I've got the following mods
ETS upper and lower IC hardpipes
ETS air intake
AMS widemouth downpipe
AMS HFC
Corsa catback exhaust.

Now the only thing I currently have on my car is the cat back exhaust. Im waiting to collect all the mods I want before I put them on the car with an obvious tune. I want to get somewhere around 310-320 whp. BUT I only can tune it to 91 non-ethonal because that's all that's available here...readily anyway. Am I missing any bolt ons that will help? Or am I expecting to much?

Any feedback would be awesome

Thanks

You want a EBCS, grimmspeed or cobb. Rest will get you there. I didn't even do downpipe until I went big turbo because the gains aren't much on stock turbo and it's a PTIA to do. I made close to 350whp.

+1, don't bother with the widemouth downpipe, the gains will be insignificant on a stock turbo. EBCS is a must and otherwise the mods look solid.

310-320 on 91 seems achievable to me with those, for a GSR anyway.

Yuu should hit it just fine with what you have. I hit 315 in the MR with only test, cat, 3 port and drop in filter. Went to the track and hit high 12’s without launch control

See I was looking at boost controllers but I’m being told different things. Some say MBC some say EBC. Even the tuner I want to take it to recommends a MBC. However I also read that an EBC adapts to weather variant....and well...I live in New York and winter is coming.

Your tuner doesn't know shit if he wants to tune an Evo X on an Mbc. U want a 3 port EBC like cobb, or grimmspeed.

Yes - Find a different tuner if this is his advice.

Manual boost controllers are nice because they are incredibly stable. You "set it and forget it" if its a quality unit. But, as you mentioned, they only target one boost level, and you don't get any benefits of the EBC.

EBC can taper boost, as well as "change" your target boost level the car sees based off the tune. Its much more complex than just that, but know there is a lot more leeway with an EBC set up. When they fail, they are all usually "normally open" which means the boost control is bypassed, and you just get low boost wastegate pressure, usually around 14 psi (if you have a stock wastegate actuator).

On these cars, electronic is the way to go, as it is already integrated into the system, and is in itself a failsafe of sorts if the part fails.
