My results with the SST cooler pretty much coincide with boost and Gunzo. I have noticed that my gearbox will stay very quiet until the temp reaches 160F, it seems anything after 160F the SST becomes a lot louder, downshifting in 3/2/1 can be a bit harsh especially in S Sport mode. However, I have the AMS solid diff mounts so its expected to have a bit more harshness.
I am going to be changing oil to the Willall fluid, I will post a review and what my opinions are of that stuff. I am a little skeptical, but if it works as advertised then it will be the cats ass. I am putting the clutch install off for now, going to wait for more stuff to be released in that area.
thanks boostsaves, I did read ur post n thanks for ur sharing, however, having ssp cooler at my rear bumper can cost me a lot when ppl bumps on my ass, most probably got to tow it away n got to wAit patiently for replacement part.
anyway this thread can gather all the user remarks on different setup, modifications,so ppl doesn't need to hunt everywhere.
I see your point, and your suggestion has been considered. It was a great idea, and i will be posting info like this on the general faq.
The rear Setup of the SSP cooler is not for everyone. That is why Kris made the front solution available to the masses. The rear cooler will however net you the best cooling possible. The difference between the two however small, or large will not be too bad. Either solution is fine for the avid SST junkie.
Anyone that has bought a rear mount cooler kit can change to the front mount at no charge. We will suppply all the hardware necessary to make the change.

And my front mount should be en route so I'll have a pics and install notes on it soon! Along with the inline filter and I'm doing a thermostatic fan control on it
The clutches weren't as bad as I thought it would be to install either. I just takes time to find things once I make the howto it'll be a good weekend project for most.
I'd like to thank SSP for all the hard work and RnD they have and are putting into the SST with out bringing up future released that I wish I could have gonna while mine was apart
Just finished 4 - 30 minute sessions at VIR today with my freshly installed SSP trans cooler. Had no problems for the first 2 sessions in Sport, my 3rd session I had it in S-Sport and eventually got the "slow-down". I then flipped the fan switch and within 20-30 seconds the slow-down message went-away and never had any other issues.
Using whatever mode has no effect on whether you get the cooldown or not ..
A fan on the front mount is also illogical .. unless you spend 80% of the time at speeds below 60mph ..
Lastly .. what is the cool down time between sessions ??The gearbox is effectively an excellent cooker once you're standstill .. meaning the temperatures from the previous run can and will carry over to the subsequent runs if the cooldown period is short (within 15mins)
The trigger temps for recovery is 135C .. so even if the cooldown disappears .. you're already cooking the internals if you continue to run ..
2 things I would suggest regarding the SSP cooler if you plan on tracking your MR, get the deep pan and keep your fan on.[/QUOTE]
Do you have a temp probe installed ?? that will probably answer most of your questions about the gearbox
The fan on mine is located behind the stock cooler .. turning the fan on DOES delay the onset of SLOWDOWN .. but in a front mount location .. I can only surmise either the track is a slowspeed track or there's alot of cornering involved .. OR the fan itself is just blocking the flow of air if you don't turn it on :bowlol: .. sorry I don't know which ..
You don't really need the deep pan .. more fluid doesn't mean the gearbox runs cooler .. it only means you're heating up more oil ..
My experience so far (inconclusive mind you) is with about 11qts of SSTF .. I was running about 80C normal driving .. yet normal levels (about 7.5 qts) I was typically at 60+C ..
I appreciate their work so much, that I bought their cooler set up. And the willal fluid. I will buy clutches too, and the deep pan, eventually, but just not right now. I need to get the cooler out of the fender well for some other mods. U know, this car is fast getting damn expensive...
I am really looking forward to them getting the trans to a point where they can find a way to boost pressures, and get it the clutches to hold enough for us to find out exactlly how much power it takes to just break one.
