Hi guys,

New here looking forward to joining!
After driving a Lancer ES for awhile I've decided to finally upgrade to one of the performance models to be used as a daily driver. Not planning on doing any crazy upgrades. Theres two for sale near me, A 2010 Ralliart (Rebuild, looks to be done really well and the dealership has good rep) with 91000kms @ $9900 CAD and a 08 EVO MR (From a Mitsu dealership) with 108k kms @ $19995. I wanted get opinions and maybe some advice on what to look for when buying?

I'm pretty green on the car-guy stuff, But I've always been super into Lancers. Any advice is much appreciated!! Absolutely love them.

I’ve owned a 2010 Ralliart loved it. But once I went to the Evo, it was night and day. Yes you can upgrade and Add Evo X parts and such, but the whole car it’s self in general.. if your in love get the Top teir, because you might kick yourself later.
Either way you will be happy. But I’d try to find a 2011 and up. Because I personally don’t like the cheap look red gauges and dash in the 2008-2010 models. Preown MR’s with SST’s keep in mind that unit has been for sure driven hard for some fun times. I’d keep the look out, and be ready for clutch replacement. Check out all of our build forums, their is some really good people on Hear, and tons of adivce and lessons learnt on our Trail and errors times

I agree. If you can, get the Evo over the Ralliart. The Ralliart is a good car. But eventually you will probably want to upgrade again.

And +1 on the SST. Hopefully you can find some kind of maintenance records for the cars. The SST needs REGULAR fluid changes. And it is expensive to rebuild. But both cars have them, so you may as well be ready for that either way.

Well, The EVO sold this morning so it seems like the decision was made for me haha!
For the Ralliart, I have checked the records for it and a Transmission flush / maintenance was done when it got to the Dealership, aswell the Timing Belt and AWD Pump have been replaced before then. The only thing I noticed while doing a test drive, was initially it felt like the first gear would slip slightly from a dead stop? All of the other shifting felt perfectly fine with no issue. Felt super smooth. Thanks again guys, If another EVO pops up I'll look into it, but they don't seem super common to find haha.

You will end up upgrading in a few years.
I have made that mistake over and over again in life and the cycle
ended with This Evo.
Got and integra LS cause I couldnt afford a GSR then upgraded to GSR anyways.
Got a BMW 330ci closes thing to a M3 then upgraded to real M3
Got an Acura TL Though I didnt need the TL-S I was wrong
1 year later upgraded to TL-S.
The Ralliart is a nice car, but you will always want the Evo.

That little slip you felt is probably normal. The SST transmission cars are notorious for a little "lag" from a dead stop before the car gets moving. The SST intentionally allows for more clutch slip in Normal driving mode to properly heat up the transmission fluid (tranny fluid has to heat up before it can perform as it should). Most of us put the car in "Super Sport" mode and manually shift it to prevent unnecessary clutch wear because of this. The Ralliart does not come with Super Sport mode, but it can be added relatively easily via software.
