2011 Lancer GTS Exhause Questions

I just want to preface this by saying I'm still a newbie in the southern Cali scene but I want to change the exhaust note in my car.
I have a 2011 Lancer GTS 5 Speed (4b12, 2.4L all day baby), and the car came with some type of magnaflow exhaust, I can't identify which one but it's got a cool tip. Anyway, it's still kind of mellow tone and I don't want to shell out a lot more money on another exhaust set up, so I was thinking of doing a muffler delete, but some people have mentioned that it just gets too loud, obnoxious drone. I was wondering if you guys have any tips and tricks on how to get that right exhaust sounds? Muffler delete? Change inside of muffler? Resontor deletes? Help a guy out.
