No, there's a way to hold a couple buttons for a few seconds to disable the compressor engaging just because it's set to auto.

i pressed and held the middle dial and farthest right dial for a second and it beeped and flashed. did it again and it beeped and flashed again and auto a/c on was disabled

FYI according to the manual, any AC-disabling button combos ONLY affect the "Auto" mode. The AC will always activate when the knob is set to either defog, or defog & footwell.
