Allergy Solutions...

I grew up in a household that always had two dogs and one cat. I never had problems with allergies until now. Between cold weather induced asthma that just creeped up on me this year, and my girlfriends cat, I can't breathe for shit (especially after a workout).

I currently change out my furnace filters once a month, but I only replace them with relatively cheap filters. I have a new fancy vaccuum cleaner that I use at least once a week. We brush the cat once a week. I have to air purifiers that I clean out every few months. I use an inhaler for temporary relief, but I am wondering if anyone has any other ideas on what I can do to help.

I have heard that the twenty dollar furnace filters do not work that much better than the three dollar ones, especially if they are replaced often enough, and I don't want to go to the doctor so that I can take a pill that I will eventually build a tolerance to so that I need to tak esomething else and be on medication for my whole life..... ya know?

I guess that I am interested in a more holistic approach. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I was getting an allergy shot monthly for years, but quit because it got to be a hassle.
Solaray QBC Plex. My mother has horrid allergies and when I put on this it helped big time. The key here is to only take them during the seasons when you're really effected. Like anything your body takes in it will build up a tolerance. I've put many of my old customers on this with great success.

I should be able to find this at any supplement shop?
Not all, Vitamin Shoppe or Whole foods with definitely have it but Vitamin World or GNC will not. Make sure you find the brand because quality counts.
What type of air purifiers are you using? The ionic types can make asthma sufferers worse. You'll want ones that use a HEPA filter and can move large amounts of air when needed.

Ionizers generate small amounts of ozone which is generally bad.

I've heard good things about the RabbitAir air purifiers but they're a little pricey. I've got a Sears unit in my living room and a Mitsubishi PlasmaPure (with plasma disabled) I got from Woot in the bedroom.
