Hello EVO X Community:

I've been running Signature Series 5w30 ever since I bought my car. I happened to check the oil today and noticed that it is VERY black. It has about 2500 miles on this oil. Would I benefit more switching to the Z-Rod series or should I continue to use 5w30 year round, especially since I live in Cali?

Car is mainly has bolt ons and is planning on going e85.

Thanks

Oil naturally breaks down. You also get minute combustion deposits from the engine as it runs. It's not a perfect seal. As oil gets hot it breaks down as well. The hotter it gets, the faster it happens. You also won't ever get out every ounce of oil from the cooler when you do a drain, so that adds some "color" to the mix.

Just follow your oil change routine and use a good oil with a good filter. The only real way to tell if the oil/engine is wearing prematurely, is to send it to an oil analysis company like Blackstone Laboratories.
