Just out of curiousity - given the higher pricing and lack of options for the EVO X GSR in Canada - do we still have any takers for the Evo?

I love the car, I hate the pricing/option scheme (or at least what Mitsu Canada is insinuating to by doing business this way) ....

I'm English, but I live in Toronto. I have a deposit on a PB EVo X. I originally had the deposit on the MR, but the power to weight ratio of the car meant that I decided it would require some power mods to make it more like I am used to. But the complexity (and possible fragility) of the TC-SST TCU linked to the ECU would make it more difficult than I wanted to deal with. So I decided the GSR was the way to go for me. So I changed the deposit to a PB GSR.

I'm not 100% that I will follow through w the purchase yet. I'm not happy about the rear bumper, the low wing, and the rumored grinding gears..And I really wanted that SSS option package, dammit!

Paying too much of a premium for an Evo in Canada. Wait a year and the pricing will adjust. I predict that the 09 the GSR will be the same price but will come with and SSS and Aero Package.

Had a X on order until Mistubishi decided to jack Canadians with the pricing and options. Still waiting to see the First EVO X on the streets in Vancouver. Anyone one know if they are selling well in Canada? I know there is a lot of deposits on them but will they all go thru with the purchase.

I'll drive my 08 STI for a year or two and see what will happen with the pricing and options next year. Then again I'm really starting to enjoy the STI might just decide to mod the hell out of it. :)

OK, so both bumpers are different. It means that Canada can still restrict importing US Evolution models until such time as they agree on the same standard of testing as the US. Or until the vehicle is 15 years old or older. Right now we can import vehicles from Japan that are over 15 years old. There are some pretty cool cars that can be imported.

Yeah, hopefully Transport Canada sticks to their word and reduces bumper regulation law this summer so we can import the 8 and 9, or else it'll be 15 years. Japan has some cool imports, I recommend checking out j-specimports.ca

Hmmm... now that you guys bring up the whole Transport Canada dealing with Bumper Regulation... I just did some quick research.... A globe and mail article pointed out that Transport Canada had mentioned its intention to revisit bumper regulations in the Canada Gazette ... looking it up, I found at the following link:

http://canadagazette.gc.ca/partI/2007/20071013/html/notice-e.html#i10

It's a good 8 page read... gives some decent background and info into the situation. Here's a short list of the options they're considering, and they explain it further as well:

"The Department is considering the following options and is interested in gathering comments:
1. Maintain status quo;
2. Maintain status quo but allow alternative compliance with the lower leg requirements of the gtr on pedestrian safety (since this portion of the gtr is the most advanced);
3. Rescind the Canadian bumper standard;
4. Rescind the Canadian bumper standard but regulate the lower leg requirements of the gtr on pedestrian safety as either mandatory or optional;
5. Amend the Canadian bumper standard to align the bumper impact test speeds with those of the United States; and
6. Amend the Canadian bumper standard to align the bumper impact test speeds with those of the United States and allow optional (or potentially require) compliance with the lower leg requirements of the gtr on pedestrian safety."
Last but not least, they request for people to give their comments and opinions... which was due on Dec 31st (the document itself dates back to Oct 13, 2007). And if you want to send it anyway.... send to :

"Comments, questions, and requests for additional information regarding this notice may be directed to Matthew *****, Senior Regulatory Development Engineer, Road Safety and Motor Vehicle Regulation Directorate, Transport Canada, 330 Sparks Street, 8th Floor, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0N5, 613-998-1961 (telephone), 613-990-2913 (fax); and Standards and Regulations Division, Road Safety and Motor Vehicle Regulation Directorate, Transport Canada, 330 Sparks Street, 8th Floor, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0N5, 613-998-2268 (telephone), 613-990-2913 (fax)."

I put a deposit down over a year ago. At that time the dealer was advising a probable price range of 40K - 45K - and 50K for the MR Premium (when one US$ cost $1.20 Cdn). Struck me as fair then, but now with exchange parity and prices higher than projected - it a definite price gouge - though I haven't pulled my deposit yet.

I'm in between vehicles right now and would like a ride ASAP. Last week I test drove for a second time the 335xi and an Audi S4. Both are very impressive and comparably priced after dealer and manufacturer incentives. (BMW and Audi, like Mitsubishi, are both in denial about the prospects of continued exchange rate parity). Of course, both vehicles are about $9 - 10K more than the top Evo to buy in Canada, but I can import either of them from the U.S. for a little more then Mitsubishi Canada's price for MR premium here (and that includes BMW Canada's obscene charges for a new instrument cluster and recall letters).

Still, I'd really like to test drive the MR before I make the jump to the Audi S4.

Cheers,

FYI, the PB GSR I looked at today is supposedly available for sale in Vancouver. PM me for details if you want to know more. I asked for my deposit back after talking with the salesman, Andrew, nice guy. He said it was no problem and would be returned to my CC today. I said that the one on the floor must be sold already, but he said no, most everyone that placed a deposit with them either says they want a different colour or are waiting for the MR (most say they are waiting for MR).

The sticker on the window showed a 'market adjustment' of $3,000, i.e., mark-up, but for people that left deposits it was not charged. BS IMO, but any price is negotiable anyway. I would still try to get something less than MSRP. First thing is to kick the mark-up out of the picture, then start working on the MSRP, then start working on the dealer fees. If you do start dealing with someone and they try talking up the price, please have them take a look at the merchant forums here at evoxforums.com and have them see how many Evos are being sold and at what prices they are being sold. Not only at much lower MSRP (US prices) but also below MSRP!!! They will say that Canada does not get many, but I think that the Evo X is not going to sell as well as they hoped and you should expect the dealer to cough up some of their profit to make the sale.

Despite my problems with the price (and I talked about it with the Andrew as being a critical factor) it is still a great looking car and the performance sounds great. Not practical for cargo beyond a normal luggage set, but the rear seat is decent enough for passengers, as good as my Legacy when I have the driver seat where I like it.

Andrew offered for me to light it up in the showroom (he had opened the doors) but I didn't want to gas out the receptionist. I did turn on the accessories and look at the lit up instrument panel. The cockpit (seat, instruments, etc.) felt tight just like it should, and I could imagine driving it through the twisties with abandon. Oh well, maybe in a few years.

Interior still needs work, but for what you pay attention to when driving I think it is decent enough. For the sticker price you expect nicer, though.

Any Canadian EVO X owners yet on this board? I think it's over priced in Canada which will hurt their sales no matter how hot the car is. I want some of what the dealers are smoking if they can't get MSRP let alone a $3000 market adjustment. In Vancouver we already pay thru our nose for our homes, I really don't think there is too many people willing to pay $12,000 extra (with the $3000 markup) for an Evo X. Just because we are north of the 49th parallel it doesn't mean we like taking it up the A**.

Anybody paying $3,000 market adjustment is getting full on DP'd!
:wallbash:

Taking it in the butt :idhitit: ... or DP ... Mitsubishi Canada just can't seem to get it right.... As the underdog in Canada, they should be much more aggressive - playing it safe won't get them anywhere...

No offense - if they can't even appease fans of the Evo ... how the hell do they expect to sell the MR to the Audi/BMW crowd when they're overpriced, under-optioned, and don't have the build quality and luxury those cars have?! (or how about height adjustable seats huh?)

Sorry guys - just had to vent a bit ... :|
