Any Canadians Getting the Evo?

Just out of curiousity - given the higher pricing and lack of options for the EVO X GSR in Canada - do we still have any takers for the Evo?

I love the car, I hate the pricing/option scheme (or at least what Mitsu Canada is insinuating to by doing business this way) ....

No offense - if they can't even appease fans of the Evo ... how the hell do they expect to sell the MR to the Audi/BMW crowd when they're overpriced, under-optioned, and don't have the build quality and luxury those cars have?! (or how about height adjustable seats huh?)
Had the same conversation with an Evo salesperson, he doesn't see it appealing to that lux-performance crowd. I think there will be some takers, like MINI attracted some Porsche drivers into the MINI Cooper S. But not to the extent Mitsubishi is hoping, and not at this price!
Canada Mitsubishi definitely got a potential buyers shafted. It is like they don't even want to try to sell it.
I orginally heard that Mitsu was going to pricing their EVO X aggressively to steal marketshare from the STI in the first year in Canada. This was from a the Sales manager at a dealer. To my surprise they did the exact opposite with the pricing and pushed me to the competition.

It's too bad... I was leaning more towards the EVO X and still like it. For now I'm enjoying my new ride and don't regret the decision.

THATS WHAT I THOUGHT TOO! It also makes sense for mitsubishi to do it. I bet it is because everyone put an deposit on an Evo X before the pricing came out.
Well, if all the GSR's sit unsold I'm sure they will start to drop the price at the dealer level. All these deposits are waiting for MRs that are never coming?

True, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to explain why GSR are not getting sold here...CAUSE WE GET NO PACKAGES...

+1.

It sounds like Mitsu doesn't really want to sell Evos in Canada. The pricing and package strategy sounds like this: wedontgiveafuckaboutyou, paythispriceandfeelhappyyouhavethecarmorons.
I just saw that same Phantom Black Evo X GSR is sitting in the Vancouver Mitsubishi showroom. Are they really not selling in Canada?

I asked Wolfe Subie about the STI sales last week and they said they had only sold two of them so far.

Car sales in general are down in Canada. I think people are waiting for a major shake-up in the car industry and hoping for more price reductions. Even with the MSRP reductions of Toyota, VW and Audi, their cars are still more expensive in Canada than in the US.
A year ago I thought for sure I would get one but after seeing the Canadian pricing, forget it. Very dissapointing.
$52K get's you into the range of some pretty nice cars, especially considering what you can import slightly used from the US.
The dealer here in Abbotsford sold the 1st one on the 1st day but I think once the initial wave of diehards get theirs they will not move many.
People are doing the smart thing for waiting. Mitsu Canada has no one to blame but themselves for the overprice-underoptioned GSR when compared to out the door prices for fully loaded GSRs over in the US (especially with the dollar right now!) I've been going back and forth with the GM @ one of the GTA Mitsu dealerships. For some reason I've read posts that this specific dealer has pre-sold 15..... That's funny to believe when they are currently trying to sell me one of the 3 they've had in stock since launch. None of which have sold as of yet.

I wonder what has happened with all the supposed Canadians that left deposits? Did they take it back? Because the amount of units that were supposedly pre-sold, is definitely alot more than actual sold units so far.

Congrats!

(I dropped out of my purchase. The interest rates were too high for my liking.)
Coming back from the Autoshow in Toronto yesterday, I'm completely disappointed at Mitsu Canada's overall attitude on the Evo.

I was set to go to the show to get a seat on the vehicle as I'm over 6 feet tall. The rep at Mitsu just told me "We have one coming next week, I can give you a call then."

He's aware that I'm ready to buy, but he refuses to let me sit on the car at the show, isn't this what the autoshow is about?

Upon asking when the car is coming and which color will be available. He simply told me along the line of "what we get is what we'll sell" and "we don't know what and when is coming so I can't give you an answer".

I'm willing to pay MSRP for the car is this is what he's telling me. Of course I told him about the US MSRP and he just gave me an answer such as "The base model GSR in the US doesn't even come with a wing." Like I give a fuck for $8000 MSRP difference?

He then proceeds to tell me the Evo is a Halo vehicle, and it's even more rare than a GTR as there's only 500 Evos coming in the country and there's 2500 GTRs coming.

What a crock of sh*t. Yeah I really want to be a unique and special snowflake by buying a $41K vehicle.

There's more to the story but this is pretty quick summary of it. I just want to vent here that Mitsubishi Canada is completely incompetent and anybody working there should feel ashamed.

mebius, I was also there yesteday and I totally agree. I love the fact we could sit in $100k+ vehicles, but the GSR and MR were both locked...

The part that bothered me the most was the fact that the red GSR on display had the aero kit package.. The same aero kit that is NOT being offered on Canadian GSRs! Like cmon Mitsu!
if you want to sit in one, just call Dixie/Mississauga Mitsu, Mid-Town Toronto Mitsu, or Ajax Mitsu and make an appointment to go look at theirs. I guarantee you they'll let you sit in theirs.

but if you agree to buy one, don't put down a deposit until they give you their interest rate and you are happy w it...(Good luck w that.)
The sales rep I spoke to at the autoshow was from Dixie, and he's the same guy that told me they sold a GSR for $5k over sticker price because some kid begged his daddy to buy it and he wasn't even on the waiting list. That was the last one that they had for now until next week he said.

I called around this afternoon and found out Mitsu Newmarket has 3 (all pre-sold), and Scarborough has 2 (both pre-sold, 1 in the showroom). I was tempted to go but this whole deal really gave me a bitter taste.

Yeah, knock yourselves out with paying up the butt for one. But I just feel incredibly silly to get on a waiting list for this Canadian only artificial hype.

Hey maybe in the next little while our government may loosen up the bumper regulation and I can shop for my X in the states!!! :godance:

I was also this close from signing the papers yesterday for a grey GSR.

Apparently, the previous person who had the deposit on the car changed his mind and he wanted a phantom black one instead. So the grey one was available for immediate purchase.

I'm still amused how good the salesman was doing his job, since the Evo is so hard to come by he shouldn't even be trying... I mean these cars just fly off the lot right?

They agree to do both lease & finance, whichever was more comfortable for me.

What lease and finance rate did they quote you? And was it through Mitsubishi or an independent?
I would probably consider that lease option. Did they give you a rough est. on residual value and money factor?

The dealership I'm currently communicating with still has their first shipment of 3 (PB, GG and Rally Red.) None have sold..... which probably explains why they called me again yesterday morning.

I'm ready to purchase (if the price is right) but I just fear a substantial price drop come summer, or transport Canada suddenly changing the bumper regulations to accomodate Evo imports.

Damnit..
