not sure if its similar to the sct for mustangs, but i had a handheld tuner that you could set back to stock (same thing as the cobb accesport) BUT the dealership could not tell that the car was ever flashed.

Warranty, shmoranty...a warranty is just one way "the man" tries to keep us down! Just mod it, tune it, and enjoy! Unless you bought the car just for taking you back and forth from work, groceries, etc... in that case, sell it and buy a Scion TC. : )

Nope sorry. Im in the same boat. If you cant pay to replace the engine and in my case engine and SST, then you need to hold off. Cause these things blow randomly. Diffs, transfer cases, chains jumping off, venting windows in the block, SST taking a crap, list goes on. Mind you this is happening to people with stock and modded vehicles and "great tunes" by reputable tuners.

just to clarify... they cant void your warranty, however, they can deny your claim for any reason if you need warranty work. most dealerships will allow you to do very minor bolt-ons (plus you can take them off at any time), but a tune will let them deny you your claim. another option is to find a evo shop that tunes and maintenances and forget your warranty. you bought the wrong car if you dont plan on unleashing it. its up to you if you want all show & no go.. :drive: but as the other posts said already... ENJOY IT!

how much hp increase w/ a cobb? Some guy just said the Evo X don't have an ECU counter, can somebody confirm this.
i cant confirm, but on the same note... i talked to my dealership evo service people and your ecu flags areas that get messed with. so from that sounds of that.. they can tell what you flashed to... but they can tell you def messed with it.

The dealer I go to on the regular said they have no way of reflashing the ecu or seeing if you have reflashed it. However. When they connect with mitsu engineers they can...more than likely. This is what the service guy told me.

well heck, if they can tell if it's been flashed and reset to stock map, then maybe if you want to keep your warranty it actually IS better to just do simple bolt-ons without tuning it. wtf at least in that case the warranty is still intact, as obtuse as that is.

I've thought about that, just feels dishonest. Ran my 06 subie full TBE and Tune for 90k with not one issue. Sadly the evo's seem to have more issues. I see a blown diff, ayc, engine, sst, tc about once a week, and this sample size of EVOXforums is tiny. So its not encouraging to think if I mod, that it will last. I love the car but the stock tune is CRAP! I just want a catback, drop-in and tune. UGH, but as they say. Have to be able to pay to play, which, at this moment, I cant do. Especially if the freaking SST fails...eek!

I wasn't suggesting swapping parts, just saying run the bolt-ons the dealer is okay with but don't tune it, as crazy as that sounds.

And yes, it's crazy that a tune that would actually improve the car's performance and longevity would actually void the warranty. I mean, I understand their position, but it's just ironic.

Understood, and I agree with you...but...
my local dealers even said that a BBK would deny the engine if it blew. Crazy I know, I started laughing.
So none of the 3 dealers around me would support even a catback. I dont want to explain the story again. But as far as im concerned Huntington Beach Mitsu, SouthCoast Mitsu would not back you up even if a catback was installed. Sad but true.
I understand that "they have to prove the aftermarket part caused the failure" but when they can just sign a paper that deny's the claim and then requires me to submit time, money and potential legal support to produce results. The pain becomes more than the gain. Ive thought about it over the last 6 months since I bought the car. I will just have to enjoy the amazing handling and ignore the horrible exhaust note, throttle response and power-band :)
Oh and since the tuners wont warranty anything its pointless, ask Mazz. :( CBRD screwed him over.
