Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out how many of you SST drivers have a Cobb AP instead of tuned by Tactrix cable. Is there a way to tune the SST with a AP like you can with the Tactrix or do you need a pro-tuner to be able to do it. I know that you can use the software with the AP to tweak the tune, just dont know the capabilities of it tuning the SST. Any info will be appreciated.

When I got tuned my tuner told me that I needed to switch to OS tuning to tweak my SST, hence why I switched out my AP, but upon further review I think my simple setup could have been adjusted on ATR, with a simple access port your not able to tweak a thing really. With ATR though u can tweak out the 1st gear tq limiter. I'm not really sure your goals or mods but the TCU is still our enemy as we cannot tune it with AP or OS tuning. So was my tuner right...maybe... I have heard people needing to switch to OS tuning to tweak SST, but honestly, I think you might have to have some heavy mods to qualify for this area... Be aware though. The SST was the reason my engine blew up...well kinda...overboost.....clutch packs opened up when I was in high rpms.. BOOM! see ya short block. My SST definetly needed more tweaking...but I'm not tuner so take what you want from my advice...but in the big picture open source is cheaper and exactly the same as AP

I dont have huge plans for the car, just bolt ons mainly. The reason is like you said, 1st gear limiter and maybe hope that one day we will be able to play with the tables. My plan is OS, just wanted some input as to what most of the SST cars have. Sucks to hear about your motor, you build it up yet?

I used to use a Cobb AP, now its an expensive paperweight.

EcuFlash is the way to go for the SST IMO

As far as I know there's nothing ECUflash can do that the AP can't. Maybe Tephra can step in and explain but I think soon the AP will have more options over OS

The AP comes with free software you download for serious tuning called ATR. It's under the support page on Cobbs site. If you don't have that you really can't do much. It's tune ware plus logging software all in one.

When Shadowcell did my last AP tune he added some kind of magic that smoothed out SST shifts in all modes. It's absolutely glorious.

Removing the first gear limiter with ATR is a piece of cake, as well.

There are many tables not yet available for ATR that OS has. Throttle engagement tables, clutch engagement tables, additional TQ limiters, and so on. These tables are really only needed if you are running a heavily modified MR. If your still on a stock turbo ATR has more than enough to make the SST behave properly.

I Love ATR, but I switched to gain access to these tables to make the car shift and hold TQ properly. The catch 22 is these tables are not available to the public. I was lucky enough to have a colleague from another shop share with me. I only have access to the 2010 tables. Each year the addresses change slightly for these tables and I am still very new to the OS scene and have not yet figured out how to define them for other years.

Thanks for expanding on that Rob. I remember you telling me about this, but I didn't want to explain anything wrong.

I have a New In Box AP that I no longer need since I sold the Evo a few months back. PM me if your interested.

With Tephra now on-board with COBB, the AP wont the paperweight many claim it to be. Stage 2 maps worked perfect with my car in all weather condition (My first AP was stolen, hence the NIB replacement AP I have sitting around.....)

I do feel as though Cobb will catch up with the help of Tephra. I don't see it happening anytime soon though. When they are up to date with OS I will gladly switch back. I love Cobb's software and layout. All other cars that come through our shop are tuned with Cobb (GTR's and Subaru's) so my life revolves around Cobb. They make a great product and I'm sure it will someday be on level or surpass OS.

I just used ATR (latest beta) and my AP to remove the 1st gear SST torque limiter. Worked awesomely well.

As long as you know what table you need to edit, and there is a map with that table, you are good to go either with OS or AP
