Very little. Not many companies spend the money to get their parts CARB certified. I'm pretty sure the AEM intake is. Other than that maybe a tune? Not sure if thats "illegal" but with our cars a tune actually makes the car run better so all should be good.

The Cobb SF intake is CARB certified.

In terms of passing a smog test in CA... you can have a cat back exhaust right? What about a UICP?

Just got an evo x mr, what are the california street legal mods that i can do to this to make around 340awhp? Thanks
sorry this will not happen here in cali. you just learn to accept it or you say f it and mod your car anyways. if you are looking for an AEM intake im selling one though. :) the only thing you can really do is make it a sleeper and not draw attention and if you get a ticket... you eat the cost.

well hopefully ... CA taxes the shit out of it one day to help our debt riden economy
The more you give the California Legislature, the more it will spend. Call it a "black hole" for dollars. I mean, why should you get to keep your hard earned cash when the government can come along and "liberate it" just to give it away to someone who has not earned it?

That, like, totally doesn't make political sense!

:)

You call it hell, we call it CARB.

You must be new to California if you're asking this question. I've been here for three years, going on four, from Chicago and find it amusing.

I've decided to mod my X regardless.......... :innocent:

Same here. So many people mod, and I have yet to know anyone that actually got tormented by the cops for their aftermarket parts. As long as you're not driving around weaving in and out of traffic being a douche, or street racing in front of a cop, you should be ok. Just make sure (to be safe) you get "stock looking" mods...just for some good ole peace of mind. :innocent:

Ahhhh dude , pssshhhhhh, cmon are you serious?? If you have to ask, then your probably too pussy to mod your car anyways ... Fuck the police here in CA, i got pulled over once for licking my ice cream in a derogatory manner ... Another time because my car was "too low" ... so now i purposefully do outrageous mods just to fuck with them , take for example my straight piped 3" custom built exhaust from the turbo back ... Shit is loud as hell

Does it attract a lot of attention - Yes
Could it be the loudest exhaust within 50 miles of my area - Possibly
Do cops hate it - Yes
Do i give a fuck - No!

Thats the mentality you should foster!:D
P.S. You probably shouldnt listen to me, i have a ticket list longer that your resume lol (not really funny)

There is legal, which would be a catback and CARB approved intake, thats it.

Best bet: just fo a drop in cosworth filter, tune, black UICP, blacked out,FMIC,stock location turbo upgrade, inj, tune. Your engine bay will look 100% stock and you wont have any problems with thte police. Just go with a quiet exhaust and dont drive like a douche and youre golden.

All my mods are legal
Who are you kidding? We've seen how low your car is! (btw  for that) ... But that in itself is illegal to lower your car so much ... There are CA State regulations on how high your front bumper, sideskirts, rear bumper, etc.. must be from the ground

EDIT: Here you go, I found it! Two (2) different ways you can get cited for being too low

(1) If any part of your car (exhaust or anything included), is sitting lower than the bottom-most part of your rims!

24008. It is unlawful to operate any passenger vehicle, or
commercial vehicle under 6,000 pounds, which has been modified from
the original design so that any portion of the vehicle, other than
the wheels, has less clearance from the surface of a level roadway
than the clearance between the roadway and the lowermost portion of
any rim of any wheel in contact with the roadway.

(2) If lowering your car puts the headlights 22" or lower, you can be sited for that as well.

24400. (a) A motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle, shall be:
(1) Equipped with at least two headlamps, with at least one on
each side of the front of the vehicle, and, except as to vehicles
registered prior to January 1, 1930, they shall be located directly
above or in advance of the front axle of the vehicle. The headlamps
and every light source in any headlamp unit shall be located at a
height of not more than 54 inches nor less than 22 inches.
