Hi

Before I go out and buy one, can someone please confirm speed camera detectors will work ok through the front windscreen on the Evo X and the screen has not got a special reflective coating?

Thanks

While I do not condone speeding, or illegally driving through intersections I will answer your question.

Radar detectors WILL work through the windshield. You sir are very poorly misinformed.

You cannot detect speed cameras. If they have a radar attached then you will detect the radar but not the camera. There are GPS units that have a feature for pointing in the direction of said cameras. There are two good units for this. Cobra radar detectors and the Escort radar detectors, both of which have said GPS capabilities. Cobra's are the better buy for the money but Escorts work more often.

That said, do yourself a favor and stop doing illegal things.

Ha! Ha! Nooooooooo you've read me all wrong buddy, I'm not someone who hell raises around.

Over here in the Uk they are called 'safety camera's' but it has nothing to do with safety, they are purelly a revenue maker ... simple as!

Because I do a varied milage in places I am not sure about ( welsh valleys etc ) occasionally you do forget your speed, especially on a very winding valley road and more so whilst driving the Evo :dancebanana:....Our roads are far harder to drive on than the American mile after mile after mile of straight, boring roads!

Just want it to remind me that's all, and as you have clearly said they will work throught the windscreen, guess I'm gonna get one now !

Not all US roads are the midwest. This is a very dangerous but very fun drive on the east coast (N. Carolina and S. Carolina)

When I lived in N. Arizona a few years back I used to drive Prescott Valley --> Cottonwood twice a week for work, and then as much as possible when I had my GSRX750. 158 corners in the first 12miles. Starting elevation 5k feet, to 7k feet, to 2800 feet.

LOL, everyone with a bike I know makes road trips to Deals Gap. These were people in Chicago, so that's quite a drive. So while you are technically right that it's not ALL boring roads, given the size of the country and the very few fun to drive roads I don't have much problem with his comment. But at the same time I've driven all over europe and would chose the road networks here anyday for normal daily driving activities.

To the OPs question, if this helps: I have no problems with my radar detector or the GPS in it working through the front windshield. Don't know anything about how the camera detectors work over there though.

man that pic of the dragon makes me impatient for my trip in April.
Have fun and be safe!

Yeah, I've never lived anywhere but SoCal and now AZ.
It's not hard to find a very fun road here in AZ. People think it's all desert, but it's actually one of the only states that has every known climate. 10k+ feet in Flagstaff with snowy mountain roads, to sealevel desert highways.

When I was growing up in SoCal, I needed to drive through 2 canyon roads and although they were only about 15 mins of fun, it still wasn't the stereotyped freeway.

You and I need to talk...you are just as misinformed as the OP. PM me if you want to know wtf it is you are using in your car.

The simple version: Radar is an acronym and part of it being radio. Radio waves do in fact travel through glass. And GPS' obviously don't have issues with "penetrating" metal or glass since we've been using them in our vehicles for many years.

Actually, if any of you want to know more about radar detectors or GPS' then PM me. I may not be very good with cars or football or women, but I do know this.

Haha, I'm an EE. I think I understand how radar works and gps. And pretty sure i could probably teach you something about both.

I think you should probably re-read my post

And for further info: metalic based window tints will interfere with radio waves. Similarly will interfere with cell phone reception. And i definitely understand the physics of how radio waves can penetrate concrete but not a thin piece of glass coated with a metalic based tint. If you want further info on that i'd be glad to discuss. Just like that nice little grid pattern on your microwave door protects you, we could get into a nice discussion of why it's impossible for microwaves to penetrate that glass and how they calculate the size of the grid pattern. I spent years studying EM radiation

Gps and Radar use completely different frequencies also, so while one may penetrate something doesn't mean the other will.

And even better. Where are your radio and GPS (for stock navigation system) antenae located?

I'm pretty sure their location doesn't prove anything about radio waves penetrating metal or glass. lol

Maybe you should PM me if you want to know WTF it is you're using in your car.

Get yourself a passport 9500ix, it has GPS built in thus there is always a network going on around you and will alert you to everything out there. Since it has GPS as well, red light cameras, speed cameras are all updated all the time. I love mine :)
