Edit: Throwing code P0340, Camshaft circuit problem. Need more ideas.

The story:
Got gas yesterday at a gas station I don't usually go to, also it's been raining for the last few days. After I left the station I was sitting at a light, revving the car a few times in neutral and got a CEL (car is stock, except for UICP). Drove home normally. Went out again a bit later and car drove fine, CEL still on. Got into the car this morning and it cranks, but won't start. I did a bit of on the spot troubleshooting, but ended up driving another car.

Troubleshooting already performed:
- Thought battery at first, since it seemed to be cranking to slow. Tried to jump it, no difference
- Checked exhaust for fuel smell, no fuel smell detected
- Tapped all the relays (I have a blue fuel relay from SSP), no difference
- Swapped relays around, no difference
- Wiggled some random wires going to and from the fuse box, as well as the crank sensor wires, no difference
- Checked fuses, no blown fuses found (I did a cursory check, didn't actually pull them all)
- Pulled up the back seat to listen for the fuel pump. I only heard any activity at all when I turned the ignition to 'start', nothing at any other time

The plan:
- Get a code reader at Autozone after work
- Pull spark plugs to check for spark
- ??

Any input is appreciated into other quick items to check once I get off work tonight.

check your starter connection?
check the coil on spark plugs?
could be a bad MAF sensor also or worse the ECU is messed up

very odd it wouldnt start w/jumping... did you let it charge a while before trying to start? does headlights come on or dome lights?

FYI, when my battery died, I tried jumping with my Camry and it made no difference. If the other car does not have an awesome battery, you will not see a difference. The tow truck guy comes with his huge battery setup and it starts in a jiffy!

Hmm... See, over the last few weeks it's been cranking a little slow with the weather getting colder and I sort of expected the battery to go soon. BUT, the car does turn over over, just maybe not fast enough to fire up. Did your car turn over at all when your battery went?

Yes, it did turn over, just not enough to actually start, even with the Camry hooked to it. What was your external power source when you jumped it?

I will take my battery to Autozone tonight to get tested and to buy a new one if it's bad. I'll update the thread again thereafter.

Would you get a CEL light with a dodgy battery? :confused2:

I would check plugs and coil packs too.

take it to dealer they will upgrade the battery and you pay 50%
The car is completely out of warranty, with 73k miles on the clock. I severely doubt that I could get them to cover it partially, even if I got it towed the 60 miles to the closest dealership. I'll suck it up and buy a new battery.

one day i went to a shitty gas station (i had to) and next day i got CEL on, pulled up code and it said something wrong with cat temp. couple months later CEL off. it could be something wrong with the fuel. this sucks, dont push it too hard for now.

can't even drive it, so I won't push it too hard. I'll get a new battery and get the CEL checked assuming the battery fixes it.
