I just want to give anyone running E85 for at least two year a heads up. I was logging my car last night when it shut off on me and lost fuel pressure. I first I thought it was my external pumps that died on me but after closer inspection today. I found that my fuel strainer on the in-tank pump was clogged with a tar like substance. I replaced it and the car is back to normal. I'm not sure how this happened since I changed all my fuel lines, pumps, fuel rail and injectors at the same time as when i did my e85 change. Maybe its from the gas station I fill up at. Either way I think you should check them just in case.

damn, that's nuts. Haven't had any prob on my X, but I did notice a little bit of stuff in my Jegs inline fuel filter. You might want to check that too.

I had a jegs inline also but swapped it out for aremotive 10 micron. i felt the jegs wasn't filtering enough since it was only 40 micron and always looked clean.

One of the many things you should have asked before going E. You are a lucky dude.
I did ask locally, their are a lot of people running e85 with the walbro strainers alot longer than I have, and they haven't had any issues. E85 is very common in my area so I dint feel the need to have to change mine at the time of switching over to ethanol.
Besides strainer is actually fine now. I let it sit in a jar with regular 93 pump and it diluted all the tar looking stuff. It Looks brand new, well maybe a little yellow but its completely intact its not broken down like some have reported. After two year in ethanol i think its safe to say that its e85 compatible you just have to check for the build up of the black stuff.

It would have been much better not to have done that in the first place, no? Get the right fuel sock and don't worry about it again. Like I said you are lucky you only had to replace the sock and not the engine. Count your blessings. ;)

Yeah I guess your right about doing it right the first time, But I would still check for the build up of the black residue every once in a wile. No matter which filter your have. I dont think the build up of the residue has anything to do with the strainer been compatible with E or not.

The strainer stayed intact well enough to STRAIN all that black shit out of the E85. It did the job that it was tasked with doing, and everyone jumps all over the strainer not being compatible with E85? WTF people?
