I have an 08 gsr with AEM cold air intake. I've gotten the asc service light a few times when driving it super hard and have read that overboost may be the problem, either way a tune with intake is a good idea. I'm wondering if I should buy the AP and use the custom map for the aem intake or just take my car to the shop nearby that specializes in evo tuning and get a custom tune. I don't really plan on doing any other mods till after my warranty is over. I'm also considering the fact that with the AP I can reflash my car to stock tune and drop in my oem intake if I need to take my car to the dealership. Wondering if the shop will reflash me to stock if i need to go to the dealership and then put the custom tune back on when I'm done. Also I'm assuming the custom tune will be half the price of the AP and will be better because it will be specifically made my my car.

I got that ASC crap every time I went WOT with my AP and using OTS maps. You need to be tuned for it to really get rid of it. In Ecuflash you can disable it but that isn't advised either, that just covers up the problem. Personally, I want that ASC OFF indication to occur in the event I overboost. Get your boost curve under control and maybe even bump up your airflow tables and you won't get the ASC OFF ever again unless something goes wrong. ;)

Aem intakes Cause those 32 psi SST releasing motor killing spikes

They change the return from the Solenoids to the intake which causes weird boost curves and damn near impossible boost control @ 2800-3600.

You can cap one off and use smaller line and it works better but not perfect...

I suggest a Stock airbox with panel filter or AMS, Harmon style Tube intakes.

Not sure what you mean about "SST releasing motor killing" does that mean it doesnt affect GSRs?

You've got me worried now, thinking about getting an AMS or ETS intake instead

Ok, so regardless of which intake is being used. Can someone explain the the differences between a custom tune from a shop and the pre-mapped AP tune?
1. Decide if you want to go Open Source or with a Cobb AP. Each has their pro's con's so start there.

2. Once you do that, then buy the necessary parts (fyi open source is cheaper but you get support with cobb).

3. THEN go get a custom tune.

The difference is Cobb makes the OTS maps that need to work across a wide rang of Evo's and b/c of this they can't really dial the car in. You need a pro-tuner who will tailor the tune to your car.

If you're not in a area where you can get to a tuner a lot of them offer E-tunes. PM Kaizen Tuning, they can set you up with that.

But but dey r CARB Legalz so it mus b good!

In your original post you mentioned custom tune running 1/2 the price of the AP. You might want to double check pricing..might help you decide better if you know what everything is going to run. For example, in my are you can get the AP w/ tune for $950, or just custom dyno tune for $350 on up depending on what software type.

But the harmon one doesn't have a heat shield, does that effect the idle when the fan kicks on?
