My 2010 front had grease leaking and I'm planning
to buy a used set from a 2008..

Just get a cv boot replacement kit for $50.. all you have to replace is the rubber boot, couple clamps and some grease.

But if you're convinced your cv joints are completely shot then i'd buy NEW ONLY.

For a CV joint, you are taking your chances with buying used. There's a reason why that guy is selling his CV joints on his 08 evo, and its probably cause they had an issue.

If you're worried about dirt/debris within your bearings, then yeah.. replace that shit. You could attempt to clean it out with a dry clean rag, but its hit or miss.

As far as rain, i doubt any water got in there. The grease mess you are seeing is the result of a tiny tear in the boot, and it spins fucking fast so of course it flung grease all over the place. It looks worse than it is. If it was a large tear, then rocks would have gotten in there, ruined your cv joint/bearings by now and it would be fucked.
