We are having the motor build so trying to push in the low 500whp and the MHI turbo is not going to get us their. Since i got the sexy full race tublar manifold i need a stock frame turbo and was looking at getting the FP Black. For those of you that have one how is the drivability of them? My wife DD the car so will this turbo create a issue? It also appears that FP Black BB turbos are no longer sold "outright" that you need to send in the stocker to FP and have it built. Is this a accurate statement or does someone know what a new one can be bought outright?

i am from Texas this is as good as my English gets lol. Just need to know if the fp black will be a total drag to daily drive or if it will be ok. Their is also the FP red which will offer faster spool but not as much hp. I hate doing crap twice so want it done right the next. Besides being a DD we dragrace when we can. And yeah I am not going to have any issues selling the MHI i done got plenty of messages lol.

If you really hate doing stuff twice sell the FR mani and go full frame kit. Lots of vendors here offer them. Not much more money, easier to make power with your built motor. Just my .02

I would say the black is a great choice for DD i dont have any experience with it per say but from what ive read if the tune is conservative it wont hurt as much as RED because of the slower spooling of the bigger compressor wheel, basically you kill two birds with one stone you the same maybe even more whp from a black with less boost than a red at higher boost pushing less colder air

I basically dd with my bb black (but store the car during winters). It's a blast to drive, not laggy at all by the way.. Don't be scared of that. The only time you may notice a difference vs stock is at low speed in a high gear.

The turbo itself sounds amazing; like a jet plane before it even starts to boost. Mine holds ~24 psi right to redline on crappy 91 octane and pulls so much better than the stocker ever will.

Thank you much! She will be running mainly on E so it should be all fine and dandy then :)

I like FP blacks on 2L motors Especially on E85
however the MHI will KILL it psi for psi

here are 2

MHI vs black same boost

MHI vs 7670

MHI has Kelford 214A ID1300
Black has GSCS2 and ID2000
7670 is stock cams and FIC1100

Granted the MHI is pretty much tapped out here but the only place you'll gain power on a black is up top....

add15-17% for COBB numbers

Damn i am going to need larger injectors and pump too. Just thought about that. The 1300 will be close to max on E on the black correct? I would assume it would be best to get the 2000s and scale them down for the 93 when used? Getting more expensive LOL

Dino @ Speed Circuit had a BB Black on his 2.2L and used to drive it quite often...

You don't see nearly as many FP black, red or green builds anymore due to all the great t4 kits out there. What about selling ur mani and turbo as a set and picking up a 7670 kit? U will lose some cash in the upgrade but spool and power will more than make up for it.

Buy a gtx bolt on turbo, it's more efficient. Almost same price as fp black, and it's new. 2500 for a used fp black turbo is a joke, along with their service! Gtx uses a larger turbine housing, helps keeps egt's down, and you can run a 4 inch compressor housing on it! Much better option over fp turbo!

the ONLY one theat even compares is the GTX3576R
a good turbo for his setup however GTX had wastegate issues in the past

and for $2500 + a manifold ($1000) and a good DP ($450)
you are at the price of a 7670 or 8374
