Hi
Just bought my second dream car an EVO 10 fq 300 . I have wanted one ever since I discovered turbocharged cars.
Don't they say you should never meet your heroes.
I'm so disappointed. What can I do to make my EVO my dream car.
It looks great but the performance is woeful.
Help me get my dream back on track

I don't think a new stereo and lights is going to fix anything.. Like he stated, the car looks great but is slow.

What mods, if any, does the car have? The FQ300 has the SST trans correct (I can't remember since we didn't get them in the States and I'm lazy to search)?

Mods are the only was to get the car to wake up performance wise. Tune is very much needed. But you can do some exhaust, boost controller, and tune and the car will feel alot better. You just need to make sure and get a very reputable tuner or you will be buying a new engine in the future..

Thank you for the reply. The car is totally standard. It does have the SST transmission.
I'd like around 370 at the flywheel to start and then progress to around 450.
I'm missing the brutality of my escort cossie that was 695 bhp at the flywheel.
Thanks for your help
ps how heavy is this car
Thanks
Terry

I have an MR-T. First thing to remember these car have no low end torque. Keep the revs above 3500rpm. This helps. when trying to get performace keep the revs up. That being said for under 20K you can build a bullit proof SST/Motor combo that will give you the 600-650 crank horse power you are craving. I had my SST upgraded at Kozmic with clutches, there mods and a dobson pan. I rebuilt my motor with forged internals, cams and ported intake manifold. I added all the normal boltons except using a AMS 750xp kit. Mine make 525whp and works great as a daily driver and is a ball at the track.

The sst transmission is good for 750hp. So hardware wise on the trans you are fine. Tuning the sst is for another topic.

As for the engine. Start in this order... with a tune with ecuflash/evoscan/openport after each change.

Get evoscan/ecuflash/openport2
Get wideband sensor from aem
Get a 3port boost control soleinoid
Upper intercooler pipe replace.
Then go e85 with some new injectors
Get a tephramod rom and go flex fuel, and flex fuel sensor kit.
Then get a cat delete or high flow cat convertor.
Change out your fuel relay to preempt a failed part.
Then get a new turbo kit.
Then get a new fuel pump.
Also, service your SST trans with diaqueen mitsu oil every 15k. Your clutches and sst will last 10times longer.

Only then will you be over 370hp, and your dreams will come true.

You will have fun getting there too. A TRUE motorsport hobbiest car for sure!

Join the club mate … my old spec C’s and twinscroll sti ‘s would dance all over my jdm x manual I imported very disappointed and I’ve done all the mods above and more full bolt ons inc fmic and a tune (I had removed ) car was horrendous after slower than my jdm monster rom.
Trying a different tuner on a dyno if not quick after then it’s gone and I will buy a Gr Yaris .
I think it’s the weight sadly it needs 500hp to come alive and over 380-400ft ibs rods bend so it’s an expensive experiment potentially.

Prices are rocketing in Japan even on 10 so may even put back original and stash away as not many manual’s in uk only 360 and 80% of those are destroyed by our winter drivers and uk climate
