I got my oil changed this morning at Jiffy Lube (I dont have the means to do it myself) and after they finished the mechanic showed me the dipstick and it still looked dirty and told me I needed an "engine flush". What is this process and does it work? I think it is an issue that fresh oil looked dirty so whatever it is if it fixes this problem should I do it?

Thanks

If they "changed" your oil, it shouldnt look dirty. Mine never looks dirty after I change my own oil. Maybe thats because I pour oil through till its clear and those companies dont. I wouldnt say that its worth it unless its free

I used to work at valvoline. We used to sell that shit to people. That's how we would scare them into it. Your oil never completely drains. This thins the oil and allows more of the grime to come out. It does leave you with cleaner looking oil. Does this actually help? I doubt it.

Jiffylube is where u went wrong... There fuckin idiots.. Hopefully your motor doesn.t go boom
They use piece of shit oil filters that fail regularly. I would't even take my moms pos kia there let alone my x. If it was me i'd take a trip to the dealer an get a factory oil filter asap.. Do even know what kind of oil they used?

I go to walmart and buy my own oil for usually around $25 bucks and have the dealer change my oil and use factory filter. I pay $17 bucks for filter and labor. I think thats a much better route than trusting IFFY lube. check with your own dealer for labor fee.

3k is well within the OEM specifications, if nothing else. Doing sooner isn't "bad", per se, but there comes a point when you're simply not giving the modern oils enough credit in protecting the motor. Our motors in OEM form are not nearly as exotic as we might think ;)

7k though is well beyond OEM specs on damn near every car on the market, let alone turbo charged, rich running vehicles.

Dude I freaked out when I hit 4000 on one oil change (was on a long road trip and wasn't thinking).

>waiting 7000 miles for oil change
>Not changing your own oil

I seriously hope you guys don't do this.

Yeah Yeah I know it was ridiculous and stupid to overlook this for so long... But I am clearly aware of the issue and the question originally had nothing pertaining to how ridiculous not changing for this long is.

I agree completely. I personally change my own oil right at 5k.

Additional information: on my previous car (Honda Accord V6 Coupe) I would change oil with Mobil 1 when the maintenance minder signaled I should change per dealership instructions (usually right at 9k miles with all the highway driving I do). After sending my oil to Blackstone for testing, there were zero problems noted every single time.

Anyone heard of or tried X Rev engine oil? it comes with a bottle of engine cleaner which you run with for 10 mins and its supposed to get all the gunk and varnish out when you drain the oil.
If you use good oil then you should never put anything else in the motor beside motor oil.
