Hey guys, I have a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS 5spd manual. I’m struggling to find the resolution to my flickering headlights. I recently bought the car and with my car in the “acc” mode, all of my light modes work perfectly with no issue. When I turn my vehicle on and put my parking brake down my lights will begin to flicker quickly in the Off (lowest setting) and Parking Light (middle setting) modes. My high beam and fully on (top setting) mode works perfectly fine. I’ve checked all the grounds on the chassis of my car that I know of and checked my fuses. Any help would be much appreciated!

Sounds like you either have aftermarket headlights or bulbs. The Lancers user PWM to control the DRL brightness so LED and HID bulbs tend to flicker. There are aftermarket modules to address this or you go back to halogen bulbs or a different headlight setup.

!okay sorry for the surplus of information in advance! Yes I installed the Vland headlights and that’s when I noticed the issue that’s happening above. So I thought i would take my headlight out and put the stock headlight back in to see if it did the same thing and it also flickered but I was able to turn it completely off without my low beam light flickering constantly even with my parking brake down. When I got the car the headlights that came were stock and they had an led Bulb's that also flicker. But they flicker is so fast it’s almost unnoticeable unlike the Vlands. I’m 15 and learning as I go since this is my first car lol and this has me quite puzzled. Im wondering if there’s an issue with my car (since all the reviews are positive for it and my stock headlights flicker) or if it’s a coincidence that the led that the car came with and my new bulbs don’t work. And If it’s normal I have no clue how to fix it

So the stock setup uses a halogen bulb and the low beam is used as the DRL. To dim the low beam, instead of switching the voltage they use a square wave / PWM signal to simulate this. As such, LEDs will flicker. You'll need an anti-flicker kit to solve your issue. Google comes up with a lot of options but I have no personal experience. The stock bulb is an 9006 HB4 but make sure whatever you get is for the connector on your Vlands.

Okay thank you very much I’ll check that out for sure! If it means anything the headlights come with ballasts. And I bought a 10 dollar pack of 2 “decoders” and put them in line and nothing changed

Is there a price range I should stay above with the anti flicker modules? Because I got a set for 10 dollars and they didn’t change anything

I bought the anti flicker that was posted and they are supposed to come in today so I’ll see if they work. But, in the case it doesn’t solve anything which could be very possible, how would I recode the etacs?

I'll try to post a proper how-to, but basically, download MMCodingWriter and change the DRL type from "Dimming DRL with P" to "Independent DRL with P". Don't forget to save the original Variant and Custom file.

I put OEM HIDs on my non-SSS car last night, and this worked a treat. The only other thing I needed was a relay for the DRLs, but I used the fog light relay (to test) until I purchased one.

Awesome thank you very much for the help I appreciate it! I’ll try to use the antiflicker and if it doesn’t work I’ll return it and use that money towards an open port and I’ll be sure to give an update afterwards!

Update, the anti flickers worked in a way, with my parking brake pulled up and the car on my headlights would turn on and go through all my modes, but my projector hid would not turn off even on the off mode. When I put my parking brake down and put my car to the parking light position (the middle setting) and gave my car a little throttle and let off they would start flickering until I switched it to full on and back down to parking lights, sorry if that’s hard to understand

TBH I have no idea how the anti-flickers actually work. But I suspect the issue you're seeing is that your previous headlight's DRL was the same bulb as the low-beam, but just run at a lower voltage (PWM). This voltage isn't enough to fully start the HIDs, so they flicker.

Update on headlights Bought the Rrox Relay Kit and I’ll post another update when I install it for anyone going through the same issue as me!
