^ There are no dumb questions, only mean people ;)

I havent given full WOT yet since I want to baby it a bit. Speaking of babying, this really only means keeping boost down right? Seems to me we should be hitting RPM's of all levels, just with low load. That way the piston rings set good and the piston travels the whole length of the sleeve. Right?

Yeah, thats always the big question. Do you baby it, or do you drive it like you stole it. With m VIII, I drove it hard from day one. Well, it turned out my car ended up being about 10 to 15 WHP, on average, lower then other Evo's of similar builds. So, to complete my science experiment, I am doing the opposite now ;) Hardly scientific though.

IIRC, the owner's manual says to keep it under 5000rpm during break in.

Also, the piston will travel the whole length of the sleeve regardless of RPMs.

^ hah, nice thought... you hear differesnt things from everybody.

My opinion is, baby it until that first oil change, then give er hell after the 2nd oil change.

have some fun in between.

BTW ist oil change for me would be 1K miles, 2nd at 3K.

I will probably drive mine like a girl for the first 500 miles and then steadily build up. Ive got little doubt that I will crack under the pressure though and open her up once or twice just to get a teaser. Too long in a 350Z has left me starved of POWER!!!!

The motorcylce fellow suggests 80% of break-in happens in the first 20 miles. When I picked up my new car it was transferred from one dealer to another and already had 75 km on it. It doesn't matter much to me but I missed the break-in opportunity he described. And I surely haven't changed my oil yet! I guess I'll do it at around 1500 km.

I mean, you can't help but want to feel the power of your engine and have some fun, but I try to typically kept the rpms below 4500, shifting around 4000 when doing spirited driving. I have taken it up to around 6ooo a few times, and once bounced off the rev limiter when I wasn't paying attention :) I did that a few times with my MINI Cooper S!

The guy makes some good arguments about modern engine manufacturing requiring less gentle wear period to smooth up gross surface roughness, but I'm not sure necessarily you want to go WOT right away either. I don't know much about cylinder ring seals either, but again, the guy makes plausible arguments. I think I need to go out and break in my engine today! :)
