About to install my Passport using a a blend mount and wiring kit. Instead of wiring it around the headliner, down the A-pillar, through the dash, and into the fuse box, I thought I'd take off the dome light and see if there is any suitable spot up there to tap into power. Has anyone here done this before? I've seen plenty of pictures of hardwire setups for Passports and V1s, but none from a blend mount to the dome light in an Evo X.

i tried to wire it like you described with my valentine one, but the dome light gets power when the door was open, not sure if its always a live wire.

I just ran the wire in the front edge of the headliner down the a-pillar under the side interior panels under the seat to the center console cigarette lighter wire Under the shifter. You can tap it into that and still keep the cigarette lighter power open on your center console.

Tried this...

Yo ZeroCooll, I know this post was forever ago. I just tried this with the Bussman from my Si on my Evo and it was a no go. I know these are newb questions, but does it matter which one of the slots you put the fuse in on the tapper and what direction you plug either the fuse in or the tapper in? I used the screw holding the fuse box in place for my ground. FYI, I have the Passport 8500 with the Escort hardwire kit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need two fuses in the Tap to get it to work correctly (one for the new circuit and one for the fuse you replaced), also if that doesn't work try flipping the tap around. Hope that helps.

Why don't you use vamp splices into cigarette lighter. Both pos and negative are there. Mine has been like that for 3 years now. The voltage required for detector is less than the fuse for the lighter/horn/ whatever else on there.

I also custom fabed my remote switch into blank switch by asc button.

Shoot me a PM, I'm not quite sure what you're asking. I'm more than happy to help, if you have pics it would help immensely.

You need to put 2x 10A fuses. One fuse is for the original circuit, the other fuse slot is for the new wire. Don't use 15A fuses, they won't fit and that tap is rated for 10A max.

For ground, pull up the kick panel (panel surrounding the hood latch). There should be a screw attached to the chassis to which a wire is already connected to. Unscrew it it slightly and wrap your ground wire around it and retighten.
