Hi all,

I am currently looking for a turbo capable of 700hp.
I would like full boost around 4500rpm.
Fuel - E85.

I was looking at the following:
  1. G30-770 with 0.83ar
  2. Borg Warner EFR 8370 0.92ar T4 twin scroll
  3. GTX3076r Gen II
Curious if anyone have experience with these?

Any recommendations or advice on these?

What fuel will you use? Are you looking to make 700whp or 700hp to the crank? If you're looking at WHP then none of these turbos will get there with any reliability. The 3076r won't even get close.

For 700whp on E85 my choices are:
  • EFR 8374
  • G30-900
  • Xona 7864s
For 700who on pump gas you'd have to go MUCH bigger and lose a lot of response as a result.

The G30-770 will likely spool a tiny bit faster than the 8370 because the turbine wheel on the 8370 is a tad bigger than the one on the G30 but keep in mind the compressor on the EFR flows a bit more than the G30. The 8370 is somewhere in between the G30 and G35.

Also the GTX3076r would not come close to making 700. No point in looking at it when the G30 is it's successor.

We have two cars we're currently building.

One with a G30-770 with a .84 A/R
Another with a G30-900 with .62 A/R

It should make for an interesting comparison.

I'm currently running an EFR 8374 and I don't have full boost by 4500 on the street in 3rd gear. It's closer to 5000rpm. It's a good turbo, but still laggier than I would like.

We're currently developing our own turbo kit, and based on the results of the above two cars, I will likely choose one of the two turbos to use on my own car when I switch over to our turbo kit.

My choice out of those would be the EFR8370, although all of your turbo choices will have to be ran pretty close to their max to hit 700 whp. The EFR 8474 would be a better option.

What turbo kit and downpipe size are you currently using? That spool seems pretty slow.

Full Race kit with a 3" dowpipe. This is in 3rd gear, and I'm talking about FULL boost on the street. I checked it the other day after posting this and it looks like it's about 4700-4800rpm.

FWIW, I often see people claim that they have "full boost" by a certain RPM from a big turbo and it's seldom true in the real world.

"Oh yeah, my 6466 has full boost at 4500rpm".

Sure, in 4th gear on a chassis dyno where you started the pull at 3000rpm. But not in 3rd gear on the street when you started the pull at a more reasonable 3500rpm. No one is going to go WOT in 4th gear at 3000rpm on a big turbo if they're looking to go fast, they're going to downshift first.

If you went to a 3.5" downpipe, I would bet you gain 300-500 rpm of spool. It was a dramatic difference when I went from 3 to 3.5 on my 8374.

What do you think the dynojet figures would be on the 8370 .92 AR IWG ? Pump and E70?

BW is selective of the distributers they use for their EFR range. I believe Full-Race is the USA distributor for EFR, so all the shops have to go through them.

As long as you keep the turbo within its speed limit, the EFR turbos are extremely reliable, make great power, and have unmatched transient response due to the low inertia turbine wheel.

That is definitely do-able. This is a Full-Race kit 8370 on a completely stock motor, so a built motor with cams can definitely do 100+ more whp.

@chetrickerman I found this article which claims a 150-200rpm faster spool with a 3.5" setup.

What size was your exhaust?

Any fitment issues with the 3.5" downpipe?

They said its a 150-200 rpm increase when just increasing the downpipe back exhaust to 3.5.

No fitment issues, I had plenty of room since I was using the 9174 IWG.
