So I ask people all the time who have put a Spoiler on their car and people who remove the spoiler from their car.. "What is your opinion on having a bench on your trunk or not having a bench on your trunk" I always get different answers. I see a lot of Lancers adding the Large Spoilers to their vehicles and a lot of EVO's getting rid of their spoilers. Is it an insecurity thing, a "want to be different" thing or what do you think it is??

I am always curious about this topic, especially when that adolescent word of "rice" (meaning exterior mods that make your car look faster than it is) comes into play.

It could be that they track their car, and can really benefit from a giant rear wing that produces a measurable amount of downforce...
No, No.. I have always had a spoiler on my car. Even had them put the Spoiler on my MR. Not insulting the spoilers ! Just wondering what people think about them and why there seem to be so many "Spoiler Deletes."

Yeah, it's 99% aesthetic. Track people use wings because they function; But they usually put on a different wing FOR tracking. I don't track, and I think the wing looks silly hence my not having one. Personal preference for lifestyle.

I like the way it looks on the car. That is why I have kept the tall wing that came on the '08 SSS GSR and will likely keep it.

Some people want to go into stealth mode and blend in. Big spoilers are red flags for cops to pull you over and idiots to try and race you. A few times a week I get all sorts of idiots revving engines and honking trying to get me to notice them. If I didnt have a picnic table on my trunk inviting everyone over for brunch I'm sure I wouldnt get half the attention. But to me the big wing is a trademark of the Evo so it stays. Plus downforce = racecar

I had the small wing when I bought my car. Hated it. Then i bought the do-luck style trunk and loved it. Wingless was the way to go for the time being. But I always had a thing for the Varis and gtc series wings. Get a killer deal on the gtc-300 and boom. Biggest ricer wing ever. I call myself "The Mountain Home Ricer"

Wingless is my preference for a number of reasons: 1) I think it just looks better, 2) I am a grown man and a professional so rolling into work with a giant spoiler is just ridiculous if you want to be taken serious (no matter how much you love the spoiler look), and 3) I like being low key and not standing out so much with the giant spoiler because I am just a low key kind of guy. All in all I am also happy that I no longer get a$$holes pulling up next to me on the freeway or street revving their engines trying to race...

Wingless FTW!

^ don't forget how much better you can see in the rear view!
I dont worry about whats going on behind me lol

Mitsi put that big spoiler on for a reason....Down force. Removing it is madness.

I bought the car with the small wing and put the sss wing on. I think it just makes the car look more complete. I like the wingless look too, but the car has to be slammed IMO to look really good. My Swifts wouldn't cut it.

For me, I wouldn't just put "any" spoiler on. When I get other items on my car first, that make a spoiler look more natural with the car, then I will do it. Also, I will only consider the Varis or Esprit GT Wings.

Stock, I prefer wingless.

Throwing one of those wings on there without a different body kit and some other accents just makes it stand out on it's own too much for my taste.

So in my case it is situational.

Yes I do plan to put a spoiler on later, but only after having other body work done and the car repainted. For now, I roll wingless.

I removed my (SSS, aka tall boy) wing and actually bought a regular Lancer trunk with SSS keyhole, added the "MR" lip spoiler and I think it is absolutely gorgeous as a sedan with some pep in its step. Very "grown up" type of look in comparison. Lowered slightly and the addition of the factory Aero kit maintains aggressiveness while the lack of shopping cart handle on the back refines the aggression.

That said, when my budget allows, I am putting a super fuckin giant wing on a second trunk I have sitting around waiting. The stock SSS spoiler IS functional, but let's be honest guys, it's not providing massive amounts of downforce. The Mitsubishi technical PDF regarding aero for the Evo X, which includes arguments supporting both the rear wing AND the intercooler side panels, does not give a great measure of HOW successful the rear spoiler really is (+downforce and -downforce are not technical).

http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/corporate/about_us/technology/review/e/pdf/2008/20e_08.pdf

There's for all you "OMG LEAVE IT ON IT'S A RACE CAR!!!" people who seriously need to get over that shit.

My last argument (and keep in mind, this is coming from somebody who plans on dumping some serious coin into one of the giant rear wings) for the wing delete is the drag produced and resulting loss in trap speed in the quarter mile, let alone the reduced highway fuel economy from said drag. Oh, what's that, both are negligible losses? Yeah, so is the "downforce" it provides.

Wow people are passionate about it. I just don't want to pay to remove something I payed for on the car. And it's an Evo, seems like a signature thing for the car. I also think the obsidian pb is so low profile, plus the fact that I'm modded and have no exhaust (sounds stock), that a wing delete would make the car so sleeper-y that I'd fall asleep. I want a little bit of attention! Otherwise it does kinda look like a boring 'ol Lancer...
