I picked up my Evo X last night and I am loving it!

Went with the Rally Red, SSS and NAV. I had an MR on order for the longest time and after many conversations with the dealer (and much internal debate) I switched to the GSR and I'm glad I did. My last M3 was an SMG which I had a love/hate relationship with, but after 24 hrs with the Evo, I realized how much I missed rowing the gears.

I'll probably keep it stock until summer and then let the mods begin!

I am really interested in how the Evo X fare against your M3. I remember M3 was one of the car the engineers bench mark when they designed the Evo X. Please provide your review! And congratz on the new car! hot as hell!

Danke for all the congrats!

I only have 140 miles on the car (due to work and weather), but here's my initial impression vs. the M3

The Evo X is more like my older 98 e36 M3 than my last 02 M3. The e36 M3 was a very quick and trackable car out of the box. The X is very similar in that regard. The e46 M3 was a more refined vehicle, but almost to the point of being "over-engineered". The Evo is a much more engaging and visceral drive by far. It's as quick or quicker and you can really feel the S-AWC pulling you around turns without any understeer.

So performance/driving wise:

e36 M3 - Fun and fast, but could get very hairy carrying too much speed into certain situations.

e46 M3- Fast, but not really fun. Too refined in both drive and feedback. Plus the SMG trans could be your best friend/worst enemy.

Evo X - Fast and fun with the addition of really amazing grip through technology.

However, on the interior/luxury/options side, the BMW walks all over the Evo. I picked up my Evo at night and when I drove home I realized that I had to manually turn on the headlights and then manually dim the rearview mirror. I almost thought I was about to have to hand crank the driver's window down :) j/k. My point is that it seems that Evo seems to have far fewer creature comforts than what I'm used to. The interior and quality of materials used are not in the same realm of BMW. Mitsubishi isn't really going to be able to compete in that regard. The MR will be a little closer with the leather and the technology package, but most people buying a new M3 or RS4 are not going to be won over in my opinion.

That said, I wanted a car that was fast, fun and that I could mod without deep pockets and the Evo fits the bill there. The other problem with the M3 (especially the e46) was that it was so expensive to modify, with 400hp via a supercharger costing over $10K.

So there it is. I'm sure I'll have a better review after getting more seat time.

Cheers.

If you turn the headlights to 'auto', they will auto turn off and on or is that not stock for you all?
