Inporting a new Evo into Canada?

So I've done alittle reading on www.riv.ca and it seems that you could inport a US spec Evo in Canada. Looks like you would require to change the rear bumper, daylight running lights and electronic immobilizer. Small changes whn you consider it could save you up to 10,000 thousand dollars.

Anyone else had a look at this?

i tought that it was always the front bumper that did not meet the requirements.

Up to the Evo 9 I think this was the case not anymore, though if Bumper regulations change ( there's a fair bit of talk about that here) all of the will be mood point and I'll get my Evo from the states.
They group the 03-08 Evolution under the same reasons for it being inadmissable. Don't forget the Canuck spec Evo's front bumper has some special sensors in there (previous thread had the actual part number). Even if you changed all these parts in the US and brought it to the border it would still get banned for being a US spec vin.
You cant because US spec Evo doesn't satisfy the 5 km crash thing. Wait until summer, I heard that is when Canada might drop that law.
Look again.
The car is clearly put in the inadmissible list.

My bad I'm reading the damn thing wrong. I'm looking at the inadmissable list and thinking it's inadmissible because of the stated problem but those problems are for the cars you can bring into the country but you must make changes. Sorry wishful thinking.
Both 2003-2008 Lancer, and Evolution are listed as inadmissable.

I believe that was for the the older gen evos. The main problem with a US SPEC evo X is the rear bumper.

OP at the moment the 2008 evos are not allowed in canada but in 09 there will be no problems getting one. I have already talked to multple companies that import cars and they go by the apa http://www.apa.ca/template.asp?lang=english

Anyways this is exactly what ill be doing next year. Overall cost would be around $2500 CDN if you dotn wanna do any work and around $1000 ish if you do it yourself.

I'll believe it when it happens.
There were always rumors that the Evo VIII and IX would be allowed into Canada, and guess what... That never happened.
P7X,

1) APA has no way of knowing for sure what the new import rules will be.

2) As it stands now Mistsubishi does not honour the warranty on any imports.
Maybe not a deal killer but something to consider.

1) of course, but for now there is no restrictions on the 09 EVO Xs

2) Im well aware of the mitsubishi stand on warrenty for imported cars. Something to consider would be the fact that honouring the warrenty can be decided at the dealership.

Thats because theres always idiots talkin shit. Atleast my shit is somewhat educated ;)
1) Good luck with there being any change on the 09's. I hope so, too.

2) Good luck with working a deal with a local dealer since they have to submit their invoices to Mitsu. Canada to get paid for warranty work.
Thanx,

Why's everyone so pesimistic? Must be the years of us getting screwed over when it comes to anything to do with cars.

Mitsubishi Canada will do everything they can possibly think of to keep Canadians from importing cars from the US. I am not pesimistic, I am optimistic than Mitsubishi Canada will not allow us to import cars for $10,000 less than they are selling in Canada. :)

But, I do hope that things change and that we can start importing the 08/09 Evo X (I don't care much for the looks and comfort of the earlier models).
lol, Well they better start doing a lil more reseach and a lil more thinking because paying $45-50 for an EVO X is retarded. Mitsu Said the EVO X would be competively priced with the new STI, but the scooby with nav is 46 ish. Im sure intially the car (EVO) will sell but long term not so much.....

Yes, plus manufacturers seem to be increasing their efforts to keep these cars out of Canada with sometimes dubious mods required.
RIV just follows what the manufacturers tell them on if it is or is not compliant.
They want to protect the high margins they are making on the dollar now.
For ex. 08MY Porsches now require a bumper mod. The cars have not changed since the 997 was introduced in 05 and now they all of a sudden don't meet the standard? :wtfsign:
thats messed man,

There will probably be some modification necessary but if its economical ppl are going to do it. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
