I don't think air flows through there, so I don't see it being an issue.

Yes, that's OK. It's a dress plate on the bottom. It won't hurt anything. It's strictly for appearance.

The reason we have a dress plate on the bottom is because our cores are 25" tall and we cut them to height per application.
