The JDM (and perhaps euro) models of the Evo X have side mirrors that fold in automatically. Here in the US, our cars did not recieve this feature, manual folding mirrors only.

I cnotacted Japanparts and they said they could more than likely get them for us, but wanted to confirm that these mirrors would fit. I have no reason to beleive that they will not physically fit, however i am unclear about the electronics.

Does anyone know both the physical and electrical differences between the JDM and USDM mirrors? Perhaps those of you who have replaced your mirrors or our overseas memebers could help out?

The biggest difference is that JDM cars are RHD making the mirror angles reverse what it is for our cars. This may make a difference in fitment of the motors and switches so it might not be plug and play.

Thats a good point. Does anyone know if the Australian/NZ or European models which are also LHD have the folding mirrors as standard?

sorry mate.. NZ and Aus are right hand drives.

I dont know if the mirrors differ though, I thought they were the same.. I had posted a couple of months ago the part numbers for these folding and indicator mirrors.. Will have to sift through my posts to find it again.

^^ Sorry about that. Guess i dont know my LHD regions well. If you could find the part numbers that would be great. Japanparts said they need the part number or else they will not be able to order.

I found this video in youtube of a singapore guy who added the Evo X mirrors to his lancer.

that is an awesome feature... esp. where I work where the street is where I park.

sometimes its a PITA to walk around and fold the mirrors (plus, its easier to break them manually than with the car doing the work for you)

I'm pretty sure one of our members here installed the mirrors already. He said that the wiring was a bit of work, IIRC.
The only install i could find was the LED turning signal side mirrors. Those are just outer covers and not a replacement of the entire mirror assembly like i beleive these mirrors would be.

One thing i found swapping from RHD to LHD is that sometimes the mirrors inside might be at the wrong angle. Its not somethig that adjusting the mirrors will help, its suppose to be something inherent to the actual mirror. It can be solved by swapping out the physical mirror from a LHD into the RHD mirrors. Im not sure if this will be true for the Evo.

Im also looking to see if another cars mirrors with auto fold might fit on the Evo with no or little modification. Another problem id like to solve is the large blind spot that the large side mirror and pillar combo creates. Though being taller than 5'5" might also solve this problem :)

What about the German cars? (Are there German versions?) They generally have the Euro cool stuff and are LHD. I used to get my honda seats etc. from that market so I could have the coolk JDM type look but have the controls be in the proper spots.

If someone finds out for sure I am in!

i own and drive a jdm 5speed gsr and the mirrors definately do not auto fold. you can choose to manually fold them in from the inside or via the remote from the outside but that's about it.

they do auto extend themselves after ur drive around with them folded in for a couple of mins. ;)

Nice to know. So there is a button that you can press that will fold the mirrors in?

Also, do they have the turn signals on the mirrors as well?

Thanks for the info Countdokoo. Here in the US we would call those auto folding, as you can fold them in electronically with a button on the inside or when you start the car. The only way to fold our mirros here are to physically push them in with our hands. As you can assume, this is inconvienent to run around to the passenger side to do this.

If you could, email/ask your dealers parts department for the part number for these mirrors as well as the relay and interior switch. For those of us who are looking to install these, that would be the biggest help.

Yes there is one button to fold all in fold in. You can also hit your exterior door handle button 3 times and they fold the mirrors in as well.

I don't think they get turn indicators.

According to some owners in Tokyo, you can get them to work. However, work's involved and there's a toggle switch they typically use. EVERY car in Tokyo has this feature. Notice a camero and eclipse mirrors here in the states are solid whereas they have completely different designs to allow the folding. Why, why, why can't we have this simple technology as a standard here?!
