I bounce around between St Louis and KC a lot and am looking for a tuner in either of these locations. I know of Modified by KC, but would like to avoid them because they blew three of my friends engines. I originally planned on going to AMS or Boomba in Chicago, but they are too far.
The tuning I would like to get done is pretty simple I guess, I just want more torque. I will probably end up using a Tactrix Cable because I don't want Cobb Tuning.

If you are going ECU and using the tactrix cable, you can get any of the online vendors to do an etune. Clipse, AMS, Razor, etc.

No point in driving to do your tune when you can stay home and save gas money.

Yeah, sorry, I forgot to specify. I would like a dyno tune. I don't subscribe to universal tunes. My bad...

Nice to meet another MO boy -- I'm in the exurbs of STL and can tell you to save your searching. Go to AMS. Another Evo dude from the area who's now a NASA junkie swears by AMS, as you know well, and your friends' experiences with local tuners isn't that odd -- there are simply a lack of Evo's and Evo-experienced tuners in the state. If you want to try someone who's read how to tune, feel free. There's a pretty nice and experience German performance guy in Union MO, ET Tuning, that isn't on the map yet, but he told me he's got a fair amount of STi tuning, but not so much Evo. Sort of tells me that while he's a nice guy with decent labor rates, he's not experienced enough to ensure that he'll do what he's aiming to do. Sorry!

(If you ever feel the urge to road-trip to western Chicago for an AMS tune, PM me. I am thinking that this spring will finally see me visit them since I put on an AMS o2/DP that seems to need a tune whereas my UR piece ran pretty well, reasonably leaner, sans a tune)

Bushur's also up there in Ohio near there, but from MO, Chicago's a lot closer.

Isnt Mellon Tuning around there?

Mellon tuning i believe is at Memphis, Tennessee. The only AWD dyno that i know on the midwest is on KC is modified by KC. I prefer e-tune but that is just me.

Boomba isn't a good tuner, so don't go there.

AMS can do a e-tune if you like. I got e-tuned by Clipse.

Don't go cheap on your tune, if you get a bad tune it could cost you $5k+ for a new engine. Take a day and drive to AMS, your not that far from us. Even if you spent the night, you could get a $75 hotel room, but at least know your car is running right.

'xactly, but the distance makes it at least one over-night cost, and I don't have any friends out there by "St. Charles" or wherever it is west of downtown. OP, if you want to make a road trip and split a room cost, ala track weekend cheapie, holler at me. The time there is about 5 hours, traffic permitting. You can speed some in Ill (at your risk) but there's almost always construction on I-55.

Notice the plus "+" sign. That means it could be any amount above that as well. You can go on ebay and find engines that are as low as $3400 right now. You obviously still have to pay labor and shipping, but you would be in the ball park.
