First off I sold my X this past April and have been looking for another the past few months out of regret. At the time I was tired of dealing with the clunky nature of the GSR and finally realized the money pit I had in front of me. I loved that car more than any other before but it just wasn't all that practical with gas and never driving it like the street legal race car it was. So after I picked up an Acura TSX and got the luxury bug out of my system the Golf R is the best of both. Almost evo performance with an Audi like interior, it fits me perfect.

I have been watching any news about them coming stateside for years and they just starting landing in our ports this week. It may not have the DSG but I can live with the 6spd. I expect some on here to flame about the R being inferior in power/awd which stock it is. Has everything I desired in hot hatch; handsome yet aggressive looks, decent power (256hp), 6spd, fully loaded interior yet somewhat upscale.

I will always have mad respect for the Evo X and may have another if the XI doesn't flake out into a hybrid. Long time lurker saying thanks for all the awesome advice and knowledge that this site has provided throughout the years.

250-300lbs lighter than the X and down 44hp. I figure bolt-ons and a tune I should be well over 300 maybe 350hp. That is all I wanted out of an MR if i went that route, but I won't do anything but the oem euro R led tails this year. I may not get her until April if my dealer can't trade for one while mine is built/shipped?

36k before ttl wow. But I guess you get a better warranty and service.

Yep, I'm paying 37k otb for my rising blue 2 dr with nav. Right now I could get an 11 MR premium/nav for the same before tax. Price is close but to me is worth it for the build quality, free maintenance for 3yr/36k miles even though i'm sure its in the price of the car.

Looks nice, but VW is one of the few brands that might be more likely to leave you stranded on the side of road. Guess if you're coming from an Evo, it's not that much increased risk. Coming from an Acura though, it certainly is.

Just from the experience I have had with my local dealer to order my R I am very impressed. My sales guy is going to e-mail me every Monday when VW updates there system on my order progress from my order being placed to when it will roll off the truck. I like the Acura service but the nearest dealer is 2hrs away, even though you can get service at Honda it just isn't the same.
And after the battle I had with Mitsu just to replace my battery 15 days after I bought since it was a dead panasonic, I would've been better off forgetting the evo had a warranty. :duh:

+1 buy mitsu and spend 36k to be treated worse than I did at the ford dealer with my 7k focus.

This car has great promise for a DD, especially the 4 door version. At this point, I am interested to see what Subaru comes up with their new Dedicated chasis STI and the 2.0 boxer.

If you have the luxury bug out why is the Audi interior so important? I'm not saying it's a terrible decision but why not strip out like an 8 or 9 and have a stock lighter Evo. (Idk if your a track guy or what). No matter what I'm sure you'll be happy though and the golf's hatch will be nice for the extra room. :)

Why would you want a stripped out car for a DD?

Well I like the luxury interior, just not the bland fwd and soft suspension.

Have you already bought the golf? The r32 golf is pretty cool.

I ordered it, I should have it in 1-4 months. Long wait for someone with next to zero patience, but Winter should be over by then. I'm not a huge fan of the r32 due to the heavier v6 and it looks too dated. I really dig the mkVI golf body.

Congrats man. Not going to knock the VW at all. It's a beautiful car.

BUT....eventually, you will regret your decision and be back in an Evo. Trust me. :D
Happened to me after I sold my IX. If speed + handling are your thing, then you'll be back. If speed + luxury are your thing, then you'll be happy with the Golf R.

You know, almost every time I sit in my car waiting for it to warm up, threads like these come into mind. I always end up thinking to myself, "can any car out there ever make me as happy as this one?.....NOPE!!!!"
Between my wife and I, we've owned 9 different cars in the past 10 years. Nothing is like an Evo unless you're dropping SERIOUS cash at a dealership. Maybe I'm a bit biased since I've always loved these cars when I was younger watching WRC religiously.

But like I said, it IS a sexy as car i'll give you that.
