We've been waiting for it for a long time. It's finally here.

Said to be the most sophisticated version of the Evolution series, the high-performance Lancer is motivated by a turbocharged and intercooled 2.0-liter engine, good for 291 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. The previous Evo offered 286 hp and 289 lb-ft.

The car also features S-AWC, which stands for Super-All Wheel Control. The system offers a great level of control at each wheel which, according to Mitsubishi, goes well beyond the capabilities of other all-wheel drive systems.

A host of other dynamic handling technologies are on board, including Active Center Differential (ACD) all-wheel drive, Active Yaw Control (AYC) rear differential, Active Stability Control (ASC) and Sport ABS brakes.

Two versions of the Evo X will be available for the US market, which will probably also be offered in Canada. The GSR gets a 5-speed manual transmission while the MR hosts a 6-speed, twin-clutch Sportronic Shift (TC-SST) sequential transmission.

The Evolution will include a great deal of new-age gadgets. The MR model gets xenon headlights and an optional Technology Package that includes a 650-watt Rockford-Fosgate sound system with 6-CD changer, 9 speakers and DVD-Video playback, a navigation system, a 30-gigabyte hard disc drive, SIRIUS satellite radio and an intelligent key system.

The GSR model gets an optional Sight, Sound and Spoiler package that includes the Rockford-Fosgate sound system, xenon headlights and the rear wing that is standard on the MR. The standard-equipment radio is a 140-watt unit with a CD player, MP3 file playback and 6 speakers.

Compared to the Evolution IX, the Evo X is wider and rides on a slightly longer wheelbase (2,649 mm versus 2,624). For better weight distribution, the battery and windshield washer fluid tank have been relocated to the trunk, and the new car's chassis is stiffer than the old one's. Wheel size has gone up an inch, as both versions of the Evo X are shod with 245/40R18 performance tires.

The tenth version of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution will go on sale in early winter.

(Soopah: Nothing concrete, no mention of prices, no mention of Canadian specs or trim, no mention of delays for the MR. All around a great piece of automotive journalism.)

early winter...When does winter start?
http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2003/s2143.htm

Winter is here, and it began right on schedule–December 1. That’s right. That’s the official start of the winter season and how official weather records are kept. Weather-wise, winter does not begin on December 22, as many calendars claim.

What most people usually refer to as winter is what’s really known as astronomical winter. This type of winter starts at the winter solstice, which this year occurs December 22, when the sun’s angle and its heating capacity is at a minimum in the northern hemisphere. It ends at the vernal equinox about March 21.

"What many people don't know is that there is another kind of winter called meteorological winter" said Steve Kuhl, warning coordination meteorologist with the NOAA National Weather Service in Washington, D.C. "The further north you live, the earlier it starts."

For weather watchers, meteorological winter is the three month period of December, January, and February. In northern locations, meteorological winter begins long before the winter solstice. Meteorological winter is based on sensible weather, like when snow and ice fall, while astronomical winter is based on the position of the Earth in its orbit around the sun. The start of astronomical winter is the same everywhere, but the start of meteorological winter changes depending on how far north you live.
So I'm thinking they mean late December / early January, which is right in line with what local dealers are saying for the Mitsu Evo GSR arrival.

If my dealer is correct they will have an Evo GSR in white on Dec. 23, nice Christmas present if you can get it! "I'm dreaming of a white (Evo X GSR) Christmas, just like the one's I used to know."

Does anyone know if the foglamps on the MR are HID Projectors as well?

Nevermind, found my answer, looks like they are halogen reflectors.
