Thread copied from EvoM from anyone who didnt see it there:

After having tuned our own shop car I managed to allot some time for a good customer of ours, BlackTrack on these forums, that uses his EVO X for road racing pretty much exclusively. Initially we did not have the file that we needed to tune the car, but the wizards over at ECUTeK whipped up a file for us and the very next day we were right on top of it.

The modifications that are currently installed on the car are:

AMS Upper intercooler pipe
AMS Turbo inlet/maf pipe
AMS MBC
Cat-back exhaust
FMIC

I’m still amazed at how crappy these cars run without a tune. The large dips you see in the lower HP chart are the car misfiring because it is so ridiculously rich, even with our AMS MAF pipe on it.

Boost is about 27-28 psi and dropping to 19-20 psi up top. A/F’s are in the mid 11’s, and the tune is a little conservative to meet the demands of road racing. All dyno runs are done with 100oct in the tank.

Nice! Almost 100hp gain with only bolt-ons and a tune.
The Baseline thats is used on the graph is my car with all the bolt-ons listed and an MBC @24psi. Only thing that was changed was the tune and 3psi of boost. Also, not looking at peak numbers, in the mid range there are gains of nearly 130whp and 120wtq. It is really impressive what a GREAT tune can do for this car.

Hows the car feel after all these goodies? Does it feel like a completely different car? 100whp has to feel really nice on this car. I would like to see some new 1/4 mile times and 0-60 times with all this. Bet track days are lots of fun now.

The car is crazy now, 3rd, 4th and 5th are so nice, just massive pull. It is so much different on the track now, it took a few laps to get used to the power. But now that Im used to it, its perfect. I dont really know what or how to describe it.

GET A TUNE FOR YOUR X. Haha its by far the best mod for the car, my car ran 8.8:1 AFR before the tune.

AMS

This is very noob Q, but how many times you have to have a tune once you got it and how much is the charge every time.

Thanks:thumbup:
You get the car tuned and leave it. If you add some major mods, then a new tune would probably be needed, at that point I dont know how much they would charge for a re-tune. You should call AMS (847) 709-0530 and get some more info.

AMS does tune cars for 93oct, or whatever you want them to tune for.

Any info on the installation of the AMS FMIC, Intercooler Pipe and Turbo Inlet / MAF Pipe?

Is this something I can do myself?

Also, where can I get info on the max boost capacity of the stock turbo. Obviously the FMIC provides higher boost to the turbo, but how much higher? Need to know where to set the MBC.

We can install or you can install all the parts (FMIC/UICP/Intake) - fairly basic install if you have some tools and feel comfortable taking some things off the car (air box/bumper/etc).

As far as the max boost - I really wouldn't recommend doing anything without professionally tuning the car. You can put all the parts on and the car will run a bit leaner (since it runs really rich from factory) but I really wouldn't touch the boost since you can easily blow the motor as there are too many variables involved (timing/temp changes/etc).

Hopefully this helps a bit... If you have any other questions, feel free to post, email or AIM.

Ahh, ok. So I'd install the stuff, then bring it to a tuner and he'd mess with the MBC and tune the car?

Sounds good. I'd love to bring my car to you guys, but I'm in MA, and there seems to be a shortage of tuners out here. Or maybe i just don't know where to look to find them.

That's correct, except you can actually set the boost with the stock ecu, so you wouldn't need a MBC - but you can get an MBC in addition to the ecu flash/tune for better boost handling.

As far as tuners in your area, I'm not aware of any but we do have the base mail in flashes available. You simply pull your ecu out (driver side of the engine bay) and you would send it to us. We can actually do same day service and get it back to you next day.
