So I am currently in college and my parents told me when i graduate they will give me 25k to buy a car. I really want an evo x. i have fallen in love with these machines and have been reading almost every post on the forums trying to learn as much as i can. Do you guys have any suggestions for me when looking to buy an evo, modding one, or driving one? All input would be greatly appreciated. I really don't know that much about them and what all can be done and should be done in what order. so please post back to me and give me some advice or shoot me a pm and lets have a chat about cars. Thanks guys i look forward to getting to know you all in the years to come.

do your homework. maybe when your out of collage something bigger and better will come along. or take that 25k gift and pay off all the loans your have/will accumulate. if no loans well then lucky you!
Where are you from? It's always good to try to find someone in your area to talk to personally. I'm pretty much in the same boat only my parent's aren't giving me money haha. Read what you can while you don't have the car yet. Check out whatever's posted in the new posts section and see if it pertains to something you'd like to know. Go through the build threads and look for things that catch your eye and favorite them or whatever so that when you have your own you'll already know what you want to buy for it parts wise. Introduce yourself in the new members section too! And don't be afraid to post if you know something. I may not own an evo yet, but I know enough about cars in general to be helpful in certain areas.
I don't have loans or anything and thats exactly why my parents are giving me the 25k. (Graduated 15th overall in my class and lacrosse scholarship paid for all my college.) Thats what i have been trying to do just looking at what other people are doing and talking about doing and if i dont know what they are talking about i google it lol. and i am on the eastern shore of maryland.
I have a scholarship, but my school is freakin huge. 15th in high school or college? And they wouldn't give me money, especially if I didn't have any loans haha. As is it I'll probably have about 50k debt when I'm out...
Honestly be ready for a financial undertaking. It's an expensive car to own... Including paying for expensive fixes that you never would dream world happen to you.. it is an amazing car though. I love mine.. Even though it'd been the cuz of so much stress for me.

Graduated 15th in my highschool. I got a few md state scholarships + financial aid + sports money so its not just all from being ranked that high in HS.
It's better than an s10... besides I'll always have this as a backup. it's not worth anything so I'm not trading it in haha. Not to mention I live less than an hour away from Dino. I looked at a few other cars besides the X, but it just seemed... idk. better. than everything else haha. Camaro and challenger were nice, but the interiors were kinda cheap and really hard to see out of. not to mention no leg room. Audi was more expensive to maintain than this. IX was way more on insurance and less comfortable as a DD. Corvettes are too high maintenance. STI didn't appeal as much. Supra had no backseat. GTO was the same problem although I do love me some LS goodness. And the Focus RS isn't out yet here.

Not to mention I've worked my ass off at college dreaming of graduation day when I can buy one of these things, so expensive or not it's mine :p

I totally feel you on that. Ive looked at other cars and trucks and nothing really has appealed anywhere as close as the Evo X. I have been saving up money plus whatever i get when i graduate and buying the beast.
I've heard that around a lot. Any particular reason? Besides the fact that idk how much beating it took before I got it? I mean I'd like to own a brand new car, but idk if I can spend quite that much. I can probably get away with 25k, but idk about much over 30
yep, you just dont know how it was driven and if it was a part-out from a mechanical failure with some sorta engine swap or turbo swap who the hell knows.
I should have put
"buy new... or buy used at your own risk"
thought about trying to snag an insurance auction with a bad engine and getting a SpeedCircuit 2.2 to replace it, but that's all luck of the draw
I bought mine used and I know several guys who also bought theirs used and none of them have been bitten in the ass by it. If it's used, just make sure it's low mileage and in good shape, with a warranty if possible.
I got mine with 19k from Carmax. Granted, the clutch slipped within 3 days, but Carmax has a 30 day 'EVERYTHING' warranty on any car you buy from them and they fixed it. There's members here on the Forum who'll tell you that ABSOLUTELY no Evo X stays stock since they're 'made for modding', but that doesn't account for all those folks who just buy the car and never join a forum and never mod the thing. So, bottom line is that unmolested cars can be found and you'll stand to save a good amount of money on it.

I'm one of those guys haha
^^ LOLOL. Didn't take you very long to come out of the woodwork. Hell, my car is stock for all intents and purposes. Lowering springs and a UICP, that's it. I've had my car for almost 3 years and 54,000 miles.
And no doubt you've had a lot less problems than most people! but that's part of the deal as far as I'm concerned. I don't mind fixing it if I mod and do something stupid. I'm learning something. and going just a little bit faster than you while doing it haha

all about priorities. I completely respect the stockers, hell my younger brother has a completely stock '78 skylark with 50k on it, I just don't want to leave my car that way.
mine is a full build but stock block, E85 tune, registered alternative fueled vehicle, 9k miles and had it for about a year and 4 months.
Dont buy a car from a guy like me... unless he's forthcoming about the mods that are/were on the car.
Nothing worse than getting scammed. I like your optimism irmerm. The guys on here looking to make a purchase need to know about what is out there though.
Full-blown inspection by a hand-picked mechanic and carfax should straighten out the crooks.
^ hopefully I can bribe Dino to check it out for me when I do look, if I get used that is. I really would like new, I just don't think it will be feasible.
I probably would not have bought one used from just anywhere. Carmax is VERY picky about what they'll sell and I doubt a formerly built monster with a junkyard motor would pass muster with them. So, if you DO buy used, make damn sure it's a reputable seller and you know the history of the car.

Mine was a one owner car owned by some chick in Houston.
