So i am getting a wierd noise on cold start lately (40-50F). It sounds like a struggling starter in a way, like its wheezing for the first two cranks and then it goes to normal. Anyone else experience this in the colder climates?

Info: Car is at 35,800 mi, service is done diligently on the sever 3k schedule. Mods in sig.

My guess it might be a waning battery... Batteries don't like cold, and its been pretty cold lately for orange county temps. Also, battery is original so its got maybe 2.5 - 3 years on it.

Any good lightweight battery options available if this turns out to be the case?

Welcome to winter sir. A ~$30 80W battery blanket installs every so easily and will help your battery produce max CCA (cold cranking amps) every time....

It hits -30 celcius here in northern Manitoba regularly (see: all the freaking time) and I'm still on the original battery after 3 years with nary an issue. Cheers.
