hey guys im from calgary AB

just wondering cause i called both dealerships and the 24k service is coming up for me.

one dealership was going to charge me 1100 for the service. and another dealership was going to charge me 650. is it neccessary to do all the fluid changes? seems kinda steep for the price if i only use the car for a DD.

any info be great

Thanks

I say look into doing it yourself. The fluid changes are literally drain and refill. Dealerships just consider that kind of stuff gravy work and will charge whatever they think they can get away with and give you some excuse about how you're driving a 'performance' car.

They are also charging you for "brake servicing kit", rotating tires, oil change, inspection, test drive. Go in an tell them you want the diffs, ayc fluid, tranny fluid, t case fluid an nothing else. Do the oil change urself. 1100 is a massive ripoff

I was thinking about this. I need to do all my fluids too. Is there a how to anywhere for all this? I guess diff, tranny, ayc, and t-case is it right? A how to with the right fluids for each would be the bee's knees.

I believe all this info is covered in the drivetrain section of the forums. Look for stickies with fluid capacities and there should be how-to's as well.
As for the actual fluids requiring changing:
- Transmission
- Transfer case (Diaqueen LSD Oil)
- Rear diff has 2 parts: the diff itself and the torque transfer mechanism. Diff takes same fluid as transfer case (Diaqueen LSD Oil) and the torque transfer mechanism takes ATF (Automatic trans fluid)

Every single one of these changes involves locating and removing the correct drain plug, letting it drain, replacing drain plug, locating and removing the fill plug, filling until fluid starts to spill out of fill plug, replacing fill plug, and done. Can be done in 2 hours or so with moderate mechanical skills, including time to put the car on jackstands and removing the undertray. There is NO WAY I would ever spend $1200 on a job that will take $100-$150 in fluids (max) and two hours of my time. You can damn near get a clutch installed for that kind of money.

Isn't there some weird shit with the tcase? Im trying to find it but iirc it won't fill completely the regular way.

If you take out the tcase (like during a clutch change) and get air in the lines, those lines need to be bled. For a fluid change, it's just drain and refill.

Well it's bossy z's 24k service today.....I was quoted $360 ish over the phone. Not exactly peanuts, but for a transfer case, rear diff and regular engine oil change it's not quite as horrendous as others seem to have been quoted. We'll see what they actually try and charge.

$188.24 was the final tally for the wifes 24k service. Admittedly we supplied our own engine oil and told them not to replce the air filter (Cosworth drop in), but it's really not all that bad in my mind. They (Hyatt) have actually been very polite with zero BS so far too, not that we've given them cause to be any different......yet :evillaugh:

All you supplied is the engine oil? It cost me more than that to buy all the fluids for the service!

Don't forget that the SST fluid change is NOT part of the scheduled 24k service....basically just engine, t/case and I guess diff oils, at least for an MR.
I severe schedule the SST calls for change at 30k Miles.

Thats why it only cost 450 :)

I just did the SST,T-case and rear diff. I have 19,500k I should have done them between 7-10k. The Break in fluids need to come out A.s.a.p. You would not believe how much crap was stuck to the Magnetic bolt on my T-case and all of the shiny shit that came out of the SST. But what a night & day difference with the car over all it seems better than ever. Get that crap out as soon as you can and do it yourself It's not a big deal.
