sunday morning at 1:30am, i was going for a cruise as I had a stressful day on sat. driving the evo relaxes me. i wanted a smoke so i stopped at an empty mall plaza parking lot.

i got out, had my smoke, got a call from a friend asking what i was up to. when i finished the smoke, i got into the car and drove off. i did the speed limit of 50km/h which is SLOOOOOW for a large 2 lane street (4 lanes both way) in a commercial area. that's basically 30mph! since it was the middle of the night, there was no one around. i would usually let the evo go a little under those circumstances, but wasn't in the mood.

not 30 seconds after i leave the lot i notice a car tailing me. since we're the only ones on the road i look carefully and it's a cop car. so now i def. keep an eye on the speedo. exactly 50.

he paces me for 45sec. then he lets the lights go. i chuckle to myself because he had no reason to pull me over. I didn’t want to stop in the middle of the road, so I drove another 15sec and pull into the next nearest parking lot. Shut the engine off, and lower my window. Didn’t feel like turning the dome light on as the cop can see me pretty well with his cruiser lights were pointed right at me.

2 min go by and another cruiser pulls up. This guy called for backup…lol. He approaches my car:

cop: how are we doing tonight?
me: good evening officer, why did you pull me over?
Cop: you were exhibiting signs of impaired driving.
Me: I’m sure I wasn’t speeding or swerving. What exactly did I do?
Cop: what are you doing out here tonight? Have you had anything to drink?
Me: I just felt like taking a drive. No, I have not had anything to drink.
cop: why did you pull into this lot?
me: it's the middle of the night, thought it would be safer in here for the both of us.
Cop: license and registration please.

At this point, another cruiser shows up, asks if the cop was ok, and leaves. The other one still stays. 5 min pass as he runs my info. now i know he got scared after i pulled into the lot and called everyone from around the area lol. I was getting pissed fo getting pulled over for no reason. If he asks to search my car I will start being an *******.

He comes back after running me through the system

Cop: appreciate your co-operation, have a good night
Me: thanks. (But thinking fuck you)

So why did he pull me over? Zero probable cause. Spoke to a lawyer friend, we then finally concluded that he saw me pull into the lot, waited, smoked, got a call and then promptly left. All that time he was staking me out thinking I was making a drug run. With no reason to pull me over, he pulled that impaired driving shit out of his ass. the combination of what i did and what i drive probably got his cop senses all hot and bothered...thinking he was gonna nail a drug dealer.

I’ll let it go cuz he was doing his job, however misguided, but I would’ve made his life difficult and taken him to court if he tried to search my car with no cause.

Happens a ton up here. That is the only thing the cops do in my town. I got pulled over once and the cop said I was throwing beer cans out of the car. I was just driving around with some lady friend. They can say anything they want. Pisses me off.

I wouldnt have been shocked one bit. Cops always profile people but I guess its part of their job. A young male smoking near a tuner car in the middle of the night is enough of a reason for them to check things out. The only activity going down at that hour of the night is usually illegal so take the hour of night plus the car we drive and hello cops. Atleast it sounds like he didnt give you an attitude which is also a shock.

99.99% of the time I am well below or at the speed limit, and when I see that a cop is tailing me (I'm pretty observant) while I'm just cruising, I usually will take a few turns normally to lose him then get behind him later and follow him at a safe distance as my passive aggressive payback.

At least he wasn't a dick to you. In his defense, he was just playing the odds. I know quite a few cops, some cool, some completely disrespectful all the time.

You could have atleast made up some stuff to make the story exciting. Sounds like the officer was doing his job.

Real story. Not too long ago I did a stop and question, for no reason other than the driver looked out of place in the area. As I was asking him questions he kept reaching towards the door panel. I kept telling him to keep his hand on the wheel. He started making me a tad nervious. I opend his door quickly to see a handgun sitting in the pocket of the door. I draw down on him, prone him out and got him cuffed just as backup arrived. We found two duffle bags full of weed and cocaine.

I know people get upset when cops stop them for no apparent reason. Get used to it, it's what we do. That's how we find your stolen property, find drugs and guns in you community. It's being proactive and not reactive. A lot of people want the cops to be reactive cause it's an inconvenience to them until the're the victim, then it's where were the cops when my car got stolen.
