Hey guys.. Haven't posted anything in a bit, so I have another question to keep you busy haha... Being a teen (16), I want to have my car to sound louder and better.. I really want to run an ets open downpipe, but that money isn't gonna Be coming anytime soon.. So, how would the car sound if I ran the stock exhaust, but resonator and muffler delete? Basically the last part of the exhaust is the cat converter. Where I live, sound isn't much of an issue. Also, if I get a tune, any ideas on hp gain? Thanks everyone! :)

He's essentially talking about an ETS V2 Extreme without a test pipe. It'll be loud. Not as loud as with no cat. It'll probably drone, too.

Think he wants straight pipe after cat. Plus u wont need at tune but if u do this u might as well get rid of the cat too and do an o2 plug to not throw a light. Will gain 20-40hp this way depending on othere mods

You don't need a tune with an exhaust. I suggest using the search function and finding the exhaust sound clip thread. Find a setup you like and go with it.

Sounds good man! Maybe one boring Saturday I'll take everything off and see how it sounds, thanks for the help, same with everyone else! :), I always thought you needed a tune to gain a bit more power, after you put on a new exhaust or took part of it off!

He is saying that he is going to remove the exhaust and just run it at the cat. I would say............no. Just go to a muffler shop and have them make you a straight pipe.

Well you said you didnt want a muffler. I would assume that is your best option for what you are trying to accomplish

That's a terrible idea. The heat from your exhaust can do damage to the underside of your car. I recall reading about people doing stupid shit to their exhausts on 8thCivic (several years ago) and actually burning their rear seats. In addition, a user did this on these forums, took off the catback section, and ended up melting the plastic behind his license plate.

The exhaust ends where it is for a reason. I know you're young and you sound inexperienced, so I suggest reading up on different exhausts. You're not going to be able to mod this car on a high school budget unless you've got access to a massive trust fund or a parent's Black Amex, lol. At this point, read some stuff on the forums and make an educated decision, because you might end up hurting your car otherwise.

Ah that was the one thing that was concerning me! I always had a gut feeling that if I ran an open downpipe, I would burn or Hurt something since that heat is kinda just going anywhere.. I've grown up in a car family, but no ones ever really taught me anything... I gotta find out everything slowly by myself lol.. But yeah, I will Definitely look up some exhausts... Just for shits n giggles lol, what if I did take my car to Meineke and have them straight pipe it from the dp? That should fix that heat problem and still have that nice open sound correct? Thanks for letting me know ahead of time about running the open pipe :). Most older people (well, older than me lol) would make fun of my inexperience, but it's nice to know that there are still people willing to help each other out politely. We all gotta start somewhere! :)

A straight pipe with good quality steel will work fine. A few people have done it. They're not pretty, but they work. Go with 3-inch piping.

You're young, but you don't seem entitled. That'll garner you respect 'round these parts.

Haha that last part that you wrote.. Are you saying that I'm not entitled to doing the straight pipes or entitled about me being called a teenager? Sorry, I've basically been studying all day and my mind won't process anything more complicated than drinking soda lol

Ah then thank you sir, you dont either! If you show respect, then you will gain respect :).. It's just sad that most of the people in my generation are so rude and what not..But back to the subject for one more quick question, I know if I take the cat out and run the straights, the o2 plug won't have any place to go, sending up the dash light (check engine I believe?) is there anyway that you are aware of getting that code bypassed out? Other than a flash?

Just get a Tactrix cable so that you can disable the code. You essentially copy and modify your ROM a little and turn off the code. It's pretty easy.
