Breaking? You mean like shredding?

It usually means either the tensioner is starting to go bad (not super likely, but possible), or your pulleys are worn out (more likely).

There are plenty of threads/info you can find about the plastic pulleys that came on the X's. You can replace them with the OE plastic ones, or metal ones like that came on the Hyundai's.

Or it could be that a pulley is locked up and not turning. Causing the belt to "burn up" and "break"

Thank you for your reply. I too was thinking about the pulleys, but not the tensioner. I think i will change both just so i covered the basis and have piece of mind.
