has the evo x ever lost a review to the '08 sti?The real difference comes when you turn the VSA off. Then the STi becomes less impressive than the Mitsubishi: less precise, less accurate and with less bite. This isn’t meant to denigrate the Impreza, though; it’s still an amazingly effective way of covering ground at a serious pace. The strong, fade-free brakes are worthy of particular praise.
But with all the provisos about Japanese spec and Japanese roads read into the record, here’s the deal: the Subaru just isn’t as much fun as the Evo. Both cars are packed with astonishing amounts of technology, but it’s the Mitsubishi that manages to feel simpler, more instant and more down-to-earth when being driven in the manner in which these cars are made to be driven.
On a twisty road it’s an absolute five-star joy, and petrolheads should be slobbering with anticipation of its arrival. Yes, the STi is better made, more refined and less boy racer-ish. We suspect it is ultimately faster too. But it’s first blood to the Evo. Prepare to want one.
