I think it's time to start a sticky on all the different Springs and Coilovers out there for the Evo X. If you have any additions or corrections, please post here and I or a moderator will update the stats. I'm starting to add in a "Street Price" which is an approximate average of prices seen with a basic google search and may not be 100% accurate. Just keep in mind that sometimes you get what you pay for and the lowest price vendors may or may not include the same (or any) support after the sale when it comes to tuning your suspension.

I thought I heard somewhere the MR had softer suspension than the GSR, from that chart it looks like it has the same front and harder rear spring rates. Could the difference be in the damping?

Edit: Good chart very informative, I was just curious about what I remembered hearing about the MR suspension.

Apparently I hit the 10,000 character limit with the last additions so if a Mod can split out the post into 3 at the top of the page that would be great!

1) Springs and Shocks

2) Coilovers

3) Conversion Chart

Springs and Shocks:
Springs ...................... Front Rate ........ Rear Rate ...... Front/Rear Drop ...... Street Price
Stock GSR ...................... 3.5 kg ........... 2.8 - 3.7 kg .......... 0.0" / 0.0" ................. OEM
Stock MR ...................... 3.5 kg**.......... 2.9 - 3.8 kg .......... 0.0" / 0.0" ................. OEM
Cobb ............................ 3.8 kg*........... 3.1 - 4.1 kg*......... 1.3" / 1.4" .................. $250
Eibach Pro .................. 2.6 - 4.9 kg ....... 1.8 - 4.8 kg .......... 1.2" / 1.0" ................. $220
H&R .............................. 4.2 kg* ......... 3.4 - 4.4 kg*......... 1.4" / 1.3" .................. $200
Muellerized ...................... ? kg .................. ? kg ................ 0.7" / 0.6" ................. $350
Progress ........................ 4.6 kg ............... 4.1 kg .............. 1.2" / 0.8" ................. $190
Swift Sport Mach ......... 2.7 - 4.3 kg ....... 2.3 - 4.4 kg .......... 1.0" / 0.6" ................. $350
Tanabe GF210 ............... 4.5 kg ................ 3.5 kg .............. 0.7" / 1.1" ................. $220
Tanabe DF210 ............... 4.5 kg ................ 3.3 kg .............. 1.1" / 1.4" ................. $220
Tein S-Tech .................. 4.2 kg ................. 3.8 kg .............. 1.4" / 1.0" ................ $220
Works .5" ...................... 3.8 kg*........... 3.2 - 4.3 kg*......... 0.5" / 0.5" ................. $265
Works .9" ...................... 3.8 kg*........... 3.2 - 4.3 kg*......... 0.9" / 0.9" ................. $265

* Spring rates estimated:
Cobb based on +10% front/rear
Works based on +10% front/+15% rear
H&R based on +20% front/rear (may even be +25%)
** Estimated based on rears being very close to the GSR

Shocks .......................... Damping
Stock KYB (GSR) ............... Preset
Stock Bilstein (MR) ............ Preset
Conversion Chart:
Spring rate conversions kg/mm to lbs/in

1lb = 0.45359237 kg
1in = 25.4mm
.45359237 / 25.4 = .017857967322834645669291338582677

So now we know that 1lb/in = .01785 kg

kg/mm to lbs/in

2.0 = 112
2.5 = 133
3.0 = 168
3.5 = 196

11.0 = 616
12.0 = 672
13.0 = 728
14.0 = 784
15.0 = 840

you're right, the MR suspension is softer than the GSR because the Bilsteins run less rebound valving than the KYBs on the GSR.

makes it a more comfortable ride, but may hurt track times. interesting that the spring rate in the rear is a little stiffer but its negligible difference in rate like every lowering spring.

thanks for the list...shows that from the factory, the car is a little overdamped, but not enough to really matter....definitely not worth going to springs for.

I'm still missing some stats for a few and there are some high end coilover setups that I still need to get on the list. :D

Heh, I thought I had a TON of Evo X Lowering Spring and Coilovers listed as it is!

So I looked at those links, #2 and #4 are in Japanese and not going to be much help.
I added two K-sport models and Progress springs from #1
I added Blitz ZR and the JIC-RS from #3

Not sure about the better brands or money aspect but I'll let everyone decide that on their own. Let me know if you have a translation for the others and I can list the stats.

Is there anyone who knows or have a stock damper GSR or MR test graph?
Especially for the fronts?
I wanna know the forces in and rebound!

H&R Coilovers

I saw a vendor advertising newly released H&R street coilovers.

Somewhere around 450lb front and rear.

I had some H&R street coils on my s2k and really liked them. Not a "track" coilover with adjustment or aggressive linear springs.

Retail is probably $1580.

Will be down the road...was curious about these after finding out they were Bilstein PSS internals.
