After pulling into the garage this afternoon I heard a noise I never noticed before, or is new. After pooping the hood and looking for it, I found a noise that almost sounded like a bell being rung in a rhythm consistent with the engine idling. The noise appears to be coming from the manifold.

I don't know if it's the wastegate or what but its odd/concerning.

I recently changed the oil with the usual 5/30 Mobil 1 and it's got 25,000 miles. The oil was checked for a full level this morning.

Any ideas?

Upload to youtube, then link to the video. It should embed so we can watch it.

Without the video, my best guess would be a loose bolt on the heatshield and you're hearing the heatshield rattle.

Please don't poop on your poor hood :(
:bowlol::bowlol:!!!

I think Andy5 has hit the nail on the head there my friend, a sound like that will be metal to metal vibration, most probably a heat shield. Also check a retraining clamp hasnt come loose somewhere...

Mine makes a very similar sound. All of the bolts are tight but the bolt area on the right (from the top view) isn't as tight. I.e. the shield has a degree of freedom under that bolt even though the bolt's on pretty tight...any suggestions?

Put a washer between the bolt and manifold and it shouldn't rattle anymore. When you take the bolts out, be careful - i stripped 4 of them previously trying to get them out. Use WD40 to loosen them up, those bolts don't do too well to near 1000 degree heat:duh:

Well i found out something else...the bottom bolt on the shield isn't even in...and there's no place for it to go on the ams dp. Unless something got installed wrong lol

I have an almost identical noise. mine does it at around 3k rpms.I was told that it is either the exhaust heat shield or a certain pinch/flow air going through the exhaust and making that noise by rattling a metal. I tried my best go describe it. sorry guys Greek guy here.

i have the same noise.

there is a thread on evom from a while back where i guy kept bringing his car to the dealership to pinpoint the sound. it ended up being a bent valve tappet and is apparently a known thing with these motors.

I took it in today and they think it's the timing chain. I needed to show receipts for my last 5 oil changes and they're going through Mits to verify a work order, or something to that effect.

They think this explains the idle surge (which I fixed by replacing a hose that fell off) and rattling (which I think is the trans).

I've started to get this noise after replacing my test pipe and going from the stock mani to the tubular mani. I only hear this noise in roughly 6th gear, 3k rpm and higher. If the noise starts, it will go away if I take my foot off the gas. I can wrap it out in lower gears and never hear the noise.

I don't feel any difference, and the AFR/boost looks good. All gaskets are firmly in place, and no loose heat shields that I can see.

Any ideas? :(
