Hello fellas,

I currently own a '06 330i 6 spd manual with some minor mods such as A BMS pbx tune, intake and a short shift kit.
I definitely would like to have more fun and hence the reason for looking at an Evo X(considering STi as well).

I've read and watch a few reviews and bottom line is it's a fast, great track car (maybe DD as well?).
looking into getting the X GSR and keeping in stock and do spme spirited driving from time to time. If given the oportunity, i'd like to take it a couple of times to the track as well.
I'm also planning on keeping the car for as long as I can.
Currently looking at some brandnew 2011 since they're a lot cheaper and the only difference i see is the interior.
I would like to hear personally from you Evo X owners about the likes/dislikes about your car, pros and cons of the engine/turbo/intercooler. Also, I'm a bit of a fan of the STi's short throw shifter and how it's really accurate and precise (i've driven a 2006 STi) and how does the evo GSR's shifting compare to the STi.

I'm looking forward to hearing back from you guys and am open to suggestions/recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

most people dont buy evo X's and keep them stock. One of the reasons they are so popular is because you can make them really fast for cheap. they handle great, look great, and are pretty reliable till you start making excessive power. I was looking at the Evo / STI too, when I bought my Evo. Evo I got for cheaper (atleast the mitsu dealer came down off of sticker on a brand new one, the subu dealer wouldnt budge on a 11 month old STI one thats been sitting on the lot for 11 months.) Needless to say I am very happy with my evo purchase, even though I did just bend a rod and am having my engine rebuild (my fault, not the cars (long story)). I wish I had gotten the leather and sunroof, and if your getting one of those, youll be even happier IMO. Lots of STI owners pop their engines on the stock turbo with bolt ons. the general concensus is that the Evo handles better than the STI, and the newer STI's are foogly IMO. No car handles like the evo, and even stock its very potent. Just get an exhaust intake and a tune, and youll be running 12's all day. Good luck man, i wish you the best with what ever purchase decision you make.

Another one of these. OP do you really think you are going to hear in biased reviews in a evox forum?

Mitsu owner: sti's blow rings every
Other day and they are ugly.

Subie owner: x's blow diffs, ayc pumps. The 5mt Is crap and the dealerships will rape you in warranty.

Go drive them both and chose which you like most.

Also some of us do stay stock....and it sucks. Cause I will say one thing. A stock Sti sounds 10000x better than a stock Evo. But the Evo looks soooo much better :)

like everyone else said....nobody buys these kinds of cars to keep them stock. esp w. so much power to be had.

you can always get a short shifter kit that im sure will be better than the STI stock shifter

I thought I was going to keep mine stock for a long time. but the power you can get from an exhaust and tune is impossible to resist.

Think carefully about the exchange though. If you are used the the luxury ride of the BMW and enjoy taking quiet smooth drives, the X is going to be a shock.

It's noisy at highway speeds, it will rattle. You will feel every bump, and be shocked just how hard it felt. Some passengers will find it annoying, people will look at you condescendingly.

A small group of people will go crazy admiring the car though, kids will always point and stare. And if you enjoy the connection between you and the road, and the feeling of being in complete control of any road you are on, then the X is a great car.

The control, acceleration, handling, and braking performance is phenomenal and always puts a smile on my face. So none of that other stuff bugs me, not even my squeeky brakes that sound like finger nails on a chlakboard everytime i stop.

Thanks for your input man! I'm really leaning towards the Evo not only because its better looking than the STi but its also a couple of thousands cheaper.

I do know that this will be a biased forum but i never really was asking if you like the evo better than the STi. Im just trying to get your opinion based on what i am looking for.
I will test drive the Evo but i think im pretty much sold in it :)

Congratulations on your new ride!! As for things to know about your new Evo X go to the general section and there are a bunch of sticky's to read including one that is titled "Everything an Evo X owner should know about there car"(I believe that's the title. Read up and get prepared for the break in period to be finished ;)

Coming from a fully loaded 07 Audi S4, the biggest adjustment for me was to get used to the louder road noise, rattles, and less refinement/luxury. It's not as comfortable to drive around town. To me, this is outweighed by the amazing handling, higher power potential of the EVO X. I look forward to my commute every morning!

I DD my car and plan on taking it to the track as well! Mine is bone stock and if you want to keep it that way, I suggest staying off these forums. I can't tell you how many times I have ALMOST made an impulse purchase after seeing other peoples mods and literally stopped myself halfway through entering in my debit card # LOL! Don't know how much longer I can hold off....

Anyways, it all depends on what you are looking for... After owning luxury cars for the past 5 years, I wanted to change it up and look for something that I could have more FUN with. I haven't looked back since!

PS. I love BOOST

LMAO!! I can see my self in you! I've had BMW's for the past 6 years buti never really had that much fun with them. I've only had the Evo for a couple of days and I'm already having so much fun (and i haven't even broken in the car yet).
As far as the ride it is a little bit more rough than my 330i but not by much since my bimmer had the sport suspension as well.
As far as modding it, i think the most that i would do is cosmetic exterior/interior. Maybe change the headlight to HID's and get a short shift kit for performance mod. I really am discouraging my self from touching the engine or anything that has to do with the turbo.
I also DD my car and might see my self on the track one day to enjoy the car even more!

Anyways, thanks for all the recommendations and stay out of trouble...
