Driving my Evo x on the interstate when pulling a hill makes me want to drive a car off a cliff. I own a fully built Evo 8 and that car is way smoother than this evo x. I bought the car off of an idiot and im going through trying to fix all the problems he passed onto me with out telling me. If it set the cruise on this car at 70mph it bucks and jerks when pulling a hill. The sound is vrooom ch ch ch ch chchch vroommm ch ch ch ch chchchch constantly over and over again lol. The tial is VTA and im not sure what spring is in it. I have searched and searched but no one ever seems to have a definite anwser on how to fix it or what BOV works best. The car only has mild bolt ons and was tuned at Buschurs at 25psi.

My car did this with a HKS SSQV, so badly that the computer would kill the drive by wire and leave me slowly coasting in the middle of the highway. I tried shimming the spring inside to stop flutter, but no go. Sorry I can't be of any help, just wanted to let you know it's not just your car. On the other hand, I use a Greddy type S now and don't have any issues with it setup to recirc.

I have the tial qr, which does not VTA. it flutters a bit in the same situation, but not as bad as yours sounds. The HKS is worse.
Bad spring. Go -6

haha Clipse BR did a great job on my built evo 8 tune. But im not so sure about my 10 thats why im wanting you to look over my tune on my evo x and see if we can get some bugs fixed. I just need to get a tactrix cable. Here is a video of whats going on. I want to hear someone with a tial QR post up what spring they are running and if they are having the same issues or not.

i've ran a ssq vta and did not run into those issues. i would say it is tune related; logging and seeing what load cells vs throttle position would give some insight when looking at the tables but my guess is that you're fluctuating between where the tune gets aggressive and where it is still in "cruise." While there are not many hills in tidewater area i have driven to western pa making that damn hill climb to breeze wood several times.

Sorry if I skipped through to fast. Did the OP mention turbo used?
If its a stock styl?e like FP black Garrett drop in etc. it's probably compressor surge from the small comp. housing. I had the same problem with my GT3076R drop in stock size housing.

Softer spring might fix it. I've never come across someone who has completely fixed this problem with their TiAL valve on the X, though.

The NGR Type-S will fix your compressor surge problem. I've heard back from several people who bought them after reading my review and not a single one has had this part throttle compressor surge BS.

I run a -9 psi spring in my Tial and I do get the high load, low rpm surge at part throttle a bit. It happens because the turbo spools up faster than the engine can take in that much air, and partly because the BOV doesn't have enough vacuum to open and give that backed up air somewhere to go. I've tried springs lighter and stiffer than the -9, and anything lighter than a -9 spring will cause the valve to pull wide open at idle and high vacuum driving, which is ok if it's recirculated, but can have a small effect on and spool up.

I might try a smaller body valve to see if it's more responsive at part throttle...I particularly like the Turbosmart Race Port with it's large valve, but small body, or the new Vee Port Pro which is the same style, but a smaller valve with adjustable spring tension.

As mentioned, a lot of people have had success with the NGR BOV also...

get recirc . or if you dont boos over 25 psi go back to stock which is the best bov UNDER 25 PSI , PERIOD for the evo.

Ok then if it's on the stock turbo then yes changing the spring will help. Going harder not softer. I have a Tial QR recirc valve. I bought it with the 10 psi spring. I had the same problem. I called Andrew at AMS, when I had similar problems. I too had a Evo 8 & 9. I tried every Bov knob to man. The oem was the best hands down, although the Tial QR with 11 psi spring is perfect with no flutter.

Get the hard spring. If that doesn't work. You can buy the part that makes it recirculate from Tial.
