Velocity isn't as much a mainstream channel though. You usually have to have a premium cable package to get it (if its even offered by your carrier), where History comes with the standard package pretty much everywhere.
TBH, I think Tanner's the worst host. Kinda comes of as a cry baby and doesn't really relate to the average 'car guy', let alone the average viewer. He's the Hammond of the group, to draw a crap comparison to the UK lineup. But he's also the most insightful when it comes to reviewing sports cars, like Clarkson, just without the style and way with words.
Adam is the 'i dont care about cars, but i can act so I'm on a car show' guy that has no reason to be on a car show other than to supply the down-to-earth realistic view of things. I guess he'd be like the James May, but less insightful about finish beyond whats on the surface, and more colorful. But he's also the charisma guy with good comedic timing and is quickest with a good joke, so he covers a bit of what Clarkson brings.
Rutledge imo is the best fit for the show. He's been a TV host on SPEED, and he's a real car nut. If he wasn't on TV, he'd be on forums like this just like all of us. You can tell he really loves this shit and is just trying to have a good time. Being he's the only one to bring any automotive journalistic credit to the show, he's the most Clarksonesque in his role, but with a delivery that can't be more un-Clarksonesque. He is the Anticlarkson
Lets face it... Clarkson makes Top Gear UK what it is. Take him out and put ANYONE else in with the other 2, and it's a totally different show. That's why Top Gear USA/AU/China/etc wont ever compare to Top Gear UK. Its a lot like the Evo X vs 335i argument. It's comparing things that compete at the same level, but check all the different boxes
