I installed a 4" ETS FMIC a week ago and to make sure there weren't any leaks, I was tightening a few clamps on the upper portion of the LICP. That's when I noticed an oily soot on the transfer case - is this normal? I have a little over 10K and it's an SE.

transfer cases are known to leak when overfilled, just a matter of getting the fluid to the right level. Mitsu even overfilled some from the factory. Having said that, I do not know if that's what the leak looks like.

Funny you should bring that up - at 8K miles, I brought it in to the dealership just to check the transfer case fluid and they said it was actually slightly low. They filled it up for free and said everything looked good. Maybe this is just some fluid that was accidentally spilled when they were refilling it

Could be. Try wiping/cleaning it off and see if it shows up again.
